www.uticaod.com/ghns/newsghs/x1249729451/Video-Army-amputee-thrown-from-N-Y-roller-coaster-diesWhat a horrible tragedy for the family of this young hero. I simply have to stop and wonder how he was allowed to ride the coaster though. I can't imagine trying to hold on through the violent tossing about that takes place on those mega coasters, without legs to stabilize myself. Watching the video linked here, it is mentioned that the park requires a person to be 54 inches tall to ride. 54 inches is 4 1/2 feet tall. Without seeming crass, does it seem that a man with no legs would be tall enough to be allowed on the ride? His sister said that she doubted that he was wearing the new artificial limbs he had recently been fitted with, and that she thought someone had assisted him onto the ride. However brave he was and however "happy he may have been" when he died, it seems that there was a serious lack of judgment here, and no matter who is responsible or who may or may not be negligent, it produced a very sad and tragic result. My thoughts and prayers are with the young veteran and his family. May he rest in peace. Unbelievable that he could live through being blown up in Iraq, only to be tossed to his death from an amusement park ride.

Yes, very tragic accident for this 26 year old man. May he rest in peace. The park does have rides where he would not have been allowed on the ride because many of those roller coasters turn upside down and could throw someone in his situation or a small built child off the ride. This coaster doesn't. The park does offer videos on all the rides to see if people would really like to go on them. I am sure people don't take the opportunity to view those videos even for their own safety. I can't imagine how this young man got thrown off. Knowing the park and most of the rides I just can't figure out how this happened. Just saying, I feel the operator of this ride was just trying to accommodate this young man in wanting to treat him as normal as possible. Very tragic for all involved.
