Quite the scam , but at least the new card does cut it down quite a bit. For now it's the best we have and it's much better then the old way with the stamps unless we want to take them all directly to the store ourselves.

Well, when I worked at the bank I used to hate those damn things!!!! It is better, and truthfully.........no matter what we do, someone will find a way around it.

Yep, you got that right! ;D Well, we just have to keep on top of things and if we can cut their actions down even just alittle then we're saving the taxpayer alot of money.

From what I understand, all you need to do is give someone your Medicaid card and your password. They go grocery shopping, use your card to pay for their groceries, and give you the cash!
Anyone can use the Medicaid card that has the food stamp amount programed on it as there is no photo ID. All you need is the card and the password.
I know of a case where this was reported to Welfare - it was "investigated" and nothing was done about it!

Hi Thelma, the disabled client I care for here has her picture on her card. I had to be approved by the S.S. dept. here and have a statement from them so I can shop for her and pick up her meds. and etc. I'm only assuming it's the same there since we're in the same state, but Ralph's theory is right in the way some get away with ripping the system off. Just have to be satisfied now because it has cut the abuse down quite a bit. It's all we got right now, but I'm sure in the future it will get even more improve. at least, I'm hoping.

What you hadto have and what you really need are two different things. My wife has MS and is disabled, so receives Food Stamps.......a pittance. But even before we were married I could simply take her card and go. So long as I had her PIN number I was golden.

Ralph, I was behind a food stamp client the other day in a Price Chopper and noticed that her total came to about $60, but the display said she only owned $45 in food stamps. What's with that?

What's with that? .............................................. Food Stamps do NOT cover paper goods (i.e. toilet paper, paper towels, diapers, etc.) or soap products (laundry soap, personal hand soap, dishwashing soap, etc.) and a few other things that are not considered food.

Ralph, I asked my health client's social worker about just using the pin numbers today and she stated that the department of S.S. has changed most of their client's cards to photo ID's now. She said some of the old clients are yet to be changed, but all will have the photo ID cards issued to them in the near future. My client is in the same position as your wife but for different health reasons. She is on Social Security disability but gets food stamp thought the county's Social Service department here and boy are you so right, it is a pittance. Very small allowance especially for someone ill and who needs certain diets to survive.

Kim & frank, would you believe they allow buying bird food with food stamps though. Tell me they don't have their priorities screwed up. Sh--, you would think toilet paper comes before bird food. I sh-- you not.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure that you can only purchase items that are for HUMAN consumption. That might include seeds for something like a tomato plant, because when grown that will certainly feed you or a while, but I'm pretty positive you cannot buy bird food.

Yes they have pictures on them, but no one looks at them. And I have used hers all over the place here in New York, as well as when we were in Indiana.
