A couple of times in the last few days, this pop up appears from Zone Alarm security software programs. It takes the whole screen and has no provision for closing the window or ad. Is anyone else getting this thing? I have to open a new window and go to the forum in a new window to get around it. What the hell is going on with this thing?

I'd say you are being scammed. Although I'm not currently using Zone Alarm, I have in the past & always found them to be OK. What you have sounds like is some malware pretending to be Zone Alarm to trick you into downloading something nasty. I had a similar pop-up yesterday claiming to be Windows Defender (I knew it wasn't). I had to use Alt/Control/Delete to terminate it.
Ralph may have other suggestions but I would make sure your firewall & anti-virus are up to date, if you use a scanning program (MalwareBytes or a spyware scanner or some such) update it & run it. If you get such a pop-up from a particular site avoid it for awhile (even legitimate sites can be compromised).
Make sure important stuff is backed up.

It has only popped up while opening a topic on the forum. I use Norton for security, and I have the normal firewall protection from windows as well as the intrusion protection, malware protection etc. provided by the Norton program. I misspoke when I said I had to open a new window to get around it. I simply have to click on the forum again in my bookmarks and reopen it and it is gone. Just curious as to why it only happens through the Proboards forum and not any other time.

Clipper Zone Alarm is a reputable software. Probably is like Dave said some sort of Malware posing as Zone. Do you have it installed on your PC? One way to clean your machine is to do the Security Tango.....follow the steps at www.asknick.com

Popped up on me a while ago. I hit the back button and it went away.
Probably some form of Malware or another trying to scam someone. At the end of the day just make a clean sweep of things with whatever virus/anti-spyware utility you use and IF there is anything left it should go away.
Nothing sent off any of my "watch" utilities and they're pretty damn sensitive, so I am thinking it's just a scam pop-up.
Just don't click on the damn thing!!!!

I'm getting it too, and since most malware is written for windoz, I'd say it's a scam or proboards got hacked.

Hasn't happened again. I found that by just reopening the forum gets rid of it. I was just flustered when there was no way to close their window. Norton seems to have gotten rid of it for now.

I am still getting that zone alarm thingy. It isn't malware on my computer, all my scans come back negative. And I'm running LINUX, not windows.

It is only intermittent for me. It didn't pop up yesterday at all, but I got it again this morning. More of an aggravation than anything. It is okay again now.

From the Proboards Support Forum: Q. I just want to make sure that this is normal...as I scroll down the page of my forum (here), the page changes (almost like a re-direct or something) and becomes an ad for "ZoneAlarm". It's done this at least three times now. Is this normal? A. The problem is a faulty ad. Pay attention to what ad is being loaded before you get redirected. Next time you see it, go through the report an ad procedure so that the staff know which ad is the culprit and can take it out. (After a few more complaints from other users .....) Posted on June 13, yesterday: A. Just to update, the issue was found and this should now be resolved

I should add that I've spoken with a couplel of PC users who consider Zone Alarm anathema. One felt it screwed with his system. My own experience is quite old, from the 1990's or maybe early aughts. I installed the free version of Zone Alarm and, like many users, found it very annoying since it monitored EVERYTHING and kept sending me messages. However, it came off easily. The person I spoke to above had trouble getting Zone Alarm off his system and he felt it messed up his registry. The other person I spoke to who didn't like Zone Alarm complained mostly about what I did, but as far as I know he didn't have a problem removing it. And all of that was probably ten years ago.

The netbook I worked on several months ago had Zone Alarm on it (the paid version). It neither stopped the Trojan that was able to get by it from entering the system, activating itself and didn't help to get rid of it. Matter of fact it got in my way more than anything else and I went through hell to get rid of it! Almost all newer versions of anti-virus programs as are as hard to get rid of as the very things they are supposed to stop in the first place. And I have found that most of the free programs out there are easier to work with and stop more "baddies" than the paid versions. Go figure.
