At the W.Utica Concerned Citizens meeting tonight my councilman, Jim Zecca, told me he was dropping out of the race for President of the Common Council. I was floored! Jim will be running for councilman at large. I am so disappointed but can fully understand where Jim is coming from. The party against many wishes decided to back Morehouse again and even though Jim was upset, he doesn't want to split the party and will not run in a primary. I respect Jim's decision but I am so pissed!!!!! Too much back-stabbing going on and we just lost the best man for the job. Morehouse will NOT get my vote and a few other candidates are also on the line as far as I'm concerned. I am in a very watchful mode and my support of other candidates are waving now.

The word "coward" comes to mind. This is typical politics as usual. Splitting the party would occur where he ran as an independent after losing a primary (not that he would actually lose a primary). He should have forced a primary. I'm not a morehouse fan and was pleased to see someone different come along (especially someone worthy of receiving your praises). Take a chance and run in a primary. If you lose, lose with grace and dignity. Then, throw your support behind the victor, like hilary did with obama.

Swimmy, in Jim's case it's not being a "coward." It's all about finances. Jim just can't afford the high cost of a primary. Morehouse is personally financially set very well and the party has promised him full financial backing to boot. Realistically, there is no way Jim or anyone else for that matter can compete with that. Never mind the fact that his own party people would work against him. That I know as a fact. I am very disappointed but I fully understand why Jim made his decision. I am so pissed off at both parties and my only regret is that I HAD to declined my party's request, with their full backing and no party opposition, for me to run for W.Utica's council person. I know I could and would shake this city's dirty politics up once and for all.
