There was a letter in the OD from Samantha Colosimo introducing herself as a candidate for the Utica sixth Ward Common Council. I don't know her, but its nice to see young people getting involved instead of getting out. Too bad that the OD will give more coverage to Roefaro's "is he in or is he out" of the race dance then other candidates like her. I hope she can find her way here to this board and introduce herself. In the letter she says in part: "I am interested in restoring some pride and dignity to City Hall because in my opinion those serving now have no respect for one another and lack leadership. It’s a free-for-all at the council meetings, so no wonder nothing ever gets done. That’s why things stay in committee for months without action. I bring a new generation of leadership. I have energy and I am committed to doing what is right. I will be dedicated to making the Sixth Ward a wonderful and beautiful place to live and own a business. I graduated from Thomas R. Proctor High School, Herkimer County Community College in 2008 and Utica College in 2011. I have worked in the restaurant business for eight years and will also student teach in the Utica City school system in the beginning of the 2011-12 school year." Goodness, if the rumors I'm hearing about Roefaro are true, he better run for the border instead of running for Mayor again. ps: ...and Chris before you ask, NO, I won't repeat what I heard cause right now they are just rumors and I will not repeat it. Like everyone else, including me, we'll just have to wait to see if all is really true.

I sent Samantha a face book message yesterday and invited and encouraged her to join us here at the Corner. She sounds like a very bright and caring young lady that would bring fresh ideas and honesty to the council.
She has two facebook pages, one as a candidate and one personal. I was not able to send a message on the political site, but I sent her one on her personal page. I hope others will invite her to come here and keep us informed of her campaign progress and to address issues that concern city residents.

It would be nice to see some young people on the council. I doubt she will be elected because all the elderly vote in the same elderly people. LOL
Now to the rumors about Roefaro. PLEASE tell us. PRETTY PLEASE.

So sorry Alan, my lips are sealed, but I'm sure if they are not rumors the truth will eventually hit the streets. We'll just have to wait and see. ;D I do agree with you in needing new "young" people on our council but you're right. It's not too often the "older" party people will allow that to happen unless it's someone they know they can control. Seen that much too often in my many years in politics.

I hope she can join us here. As the OD continues to wind down, perhaps the "Corner" can be the place for young politicians can reach out to voters.
