There is no argument that many state legislators, including our own, work hard. But so do many other people who earn half as much and have far fewer benefits. A state legislator’s base pay is $79,500, second only to Michigan and California. And remember, that’s part-time work. They also get at least $8,800 each for attending the January to June session, along with per diem expenses. Add to that $143 a day for time spent in Albany.
I'm in the WRONG line of work. Why can't I have a part-time job that pays as much and offers such wonderful perks?!
