Bobbiez, I think you would get along well with my daughter. I thought she was the only one who would rescue a turtle (even paid a vet bill). In her case the "pond" is a 50 gallon one in the middle of her living room. She's a good girl! I did the same with our first Chomper till he fled for better hunting grounds.

Oh, those big snappers just love li'l bitty goslings and ducklings. Sad, but at least Canadas aren't on any endangered species list.

Yankee, you took the words right out of my mouth. I was gonna suggest something of the sort last night but BZ is a kind soul and I didnt want to break her bubble about Chompers favorite delicacy. If he doesn't gobble the eggs like a breakfast sandwich, they will be tasty little Foie Gras nuggets within days. A big snapper will grab a full sized bird and drag it right under, the are only slow when they aren't in a hurry!
Lots of Canadians out there, I chase them and the ducks off the pond if they get too comfortable, they eat my fish and crap everywhere. Not a pretty thing for Irish Settlement!

Awww, thanks guys! Now you tell me. We also have four Canadians in our pond area but they don't bother us in our living space. The pond is far enough away from the house and down a little hill. No poopy where we walk or play.

Maybe the new chomper is a vegetarian!
Canadians almost always come back to where they were born and 2 makes 4, 4 makes 10, 10 make 40 and on it goes. All the sudden you go more geese than pond!
Colgate thought they were cute when they first started hanging around Taylor Puddle until there were 500 of them loving Academia. The Goose Crap was everywhere. I dont know how the finally limited the homecoming but there seem to be less this year than past ones.
The good new is, Canadian Honkers taste delicious baked with a couple strips of bacon on the top and some apple stuffing, yum!

That reminded me of a small new development of townhouses across the street from where I once worked. We use to take a walk through the development and wondered why so many homes that had recently been bought were all of a sudden for sale.....geeese. They are cute to look at but no one likes uninvited guests. I'm sure the geese were the main reason. There were two ponds on the grounds. One on each side of the road.

In California, they found the need to protect and re-establish Wolves, Coyotes, Wild Cats and other Dangerous animals in their wild areas. They even built natural pathways under the bridges and highways for them to cross safely. They didn't stay in the wild areas long! Fido and Fifi on a dog run are easier meal plans than chasing deer and Rabbits.
Now that most of the Landfills are closed Jersey is having the same problems with the bears. They come picking the garbage in the gated communities like Yogi and Boo Boo and they will destroy anything to get to a meal, threatens their cubs or startles them. They have very little fear of humans and occasionally cause great physical damage to humans they encounter while foraging Urban Style!
The Gators in LA and FL are prolific, check the pool every time you swim or you may get a surprise!
There was a reason many of these were eliminated or damn close a century or more ago, its not cause they were friendly!

Want to announce to the world...RJ and I are now proud grandparents to "5" baby Canadians. Saw them for the first time this morning when I was showing my visiting girlfriend from S.Carolina our pond. They are so adorable! Both Mommy and Daddy are keeping a good eye on them. One always in the front and one always in the back of the line. We are thrilled! ;D

Driving home yesterday BZ...I saw a bunch of geese on the lawn between the sidewalk and the road. There in the grass were a bunch of babies. I almost stopped to take their photo but didn't have my camera with me. (pond nearby in the hood) Were there is water there are geese and sometimes even not. ;D

On Tuesday, I took a vacation day to go to the Finger Lakes. On our return home, we had to slow down to a stop because a turtle was crossing the road. A truck had already pulled over and a man with a box was standing to the far side of the road waiting until the turtle moved closer. I thought you, bobbbiez, and your gratuitous compassion for all life.

Had to do another rescue this morn while I was enjoying my first cup of coffee in my gazebo. While I was sitting there enjoying the peace n quiet and the sun, here comes Mommy and Daddy with their five babies in the middle of them walking up the path from our pond heading toward the road. I jumped up and ran to get in front of them to head them off and back to the pond. If anyone was watching I must have looked like a mad woman jumping up n down in my old sweats chasing geese around. Anyways, it worked and my geese family are back in our pond but will definitely keep a good eye on them from here on. Damn, now I have to geese-sit in my retirement. Later tonight, after my girlfriend leaves to go back to S.Carolina, I will post the picture on my facebook page I took of their first journey out of our pond. I would post it on the Corner but I don't know how to do it.
