This was funny as hell. We were driving home from Utica on Rt 12-N when I spotted a huge snapping turtle in the middle of the road and I made RJ pull over. It was so busy on Rt 12 since it was the time everyone was getting out of work, but there we were in the middle of the road trying to get this huge turtle out of danger with nothing in the car to lift him up with. So, I told RJ to try to kick the turtle off the road with his foot as all the cars passing us were actually slowing down and moving into the other lanes so we can accomplish our feat. The foot wasn't working so I was screaming at RJ to just pick the damn thing up ( I did promise RJ I'd drive him to the emergency room if the turtle bit him.)
Now, there is RJ jumping all over Rt 12 as the turtle is jumping at him every time he gets close to it. Got to admit I almost pi**ed my pants laughing so hard. Finally, RJ gets a good grip on the back of him and gets the thing to the side of the road. I was relieved and so was RJ. We start to drive back home when all of a sudden I get this vision of the turtle going back in the middle of Rt 12. You got it........I made RJ go back and start all over again and try to get the turtle in my trunk of my car. Funny, funny, funny! This time I did pi** my pants laughing so hard.
RJ succeeded and we drove home with this huge "stinky" turtle in my trunk. Much easier for RJ to get him out of the trunk with a shovel to take him down to our pond and release him to his new home. He looked very happy as he swam under the water.
We weighed him before we put him in the pond. He weighed 19+ lbs. Kind of hard to keep him still while we weighed him. ;D
ps: I won't go into the part where I fell into our pond trying to take our new friend's picture as he swam away.
