Roefaro to spend $36,000 on suite renovations at City HallMaybe it's just me, but my first impressions of Utica are formed long before I enter city hall. The potholes in the street, the ill-timed lights on all the roads, the boarded up buildings along the arterial, people walking in the middle of the road (which the mayor has never seen), etc. all contribute to my poor impression of Utica. I'm glad to see that $36,000 is going to help economic development and improve public safety. Where do we stand with putting two cops in every patrol car? What about settling the Pylman investigation you launched when you were a councilman-at-large?

I always enjoy the "Welcome to Utica" sign as I head east on Oriskany Blvd. It has garbage and dilapidated buildings right behind it. I was tempted to take a photo of it when Tim Julian had a campaign sign with his picture on it posted right along side it. It would have been a perfect poster for the Roefaro campaign. In the end I did nothing but talk about it.
Hey....maybe I should get into politics

Gee, $36,000 for office renovations. Hey, wcup and oc455, wouldn't that just about cover the cost of two deputies to patrol in Utica for a year?

It seems our "new" Mayor is putting HIS wants and needs before our City's inner structure needed repairs and the safety of our Police Officers. I don't know how anyone else feels, but this "new" Mayor is NOT making any brownie points for me. In fact, I now have my doubts if he is going to be any different than all the other politicians that have occupied this office for the past 30 years.

His past political record should be a good indicator...

Perhaps we could hold a Charity Ball to raise money to offset the costs. Is he trying to single handedly bring back the mock turtleneck? Come to think of it, City Hall is a lot like the too tight pants he wears. No ballroom. Maybe they could make some ballroom space in there while they are renovating (City hall - not Dave's pant's)

I'm not surprised that Roefaro isn't any different than any other mayor before him. Why should he be? Really though what I want to know is if the OD is going to continue to interview Tim Julian every time Roefaro makes a move.

Mom always told me to look for the silver lining. So the more I think about this, the more I see it as a refreshing bit of news.
I mean, honestly, when was the last time you saw an elected official with the courage to take such decisive actions based on his personal convictions and with such complete and utter disregard for how it will look to the electorate?

LOL, Denise, I noticed that too. I'll bet it's Julian who is calling them, and not the other way around. Tim will get bored with it after a short while.

Mom always told me to look for the silver lining. The silver lining is lining the pocket of the contractor who is probably getting the work. Probably a contractor who is related to one of his staff members, a staff member that is a city employee not living in the city as is required under the city charter. BTW, did they ever resolve the residency issue with those two cops?

You raise an interesting question, shouldn't the DPW be heading up the renovations?

I listened to Roefaro on WIBX this morning and the office renovation topic came up. I found it interesting to note that $19,000 of the project is for asbestos abatement. If you move a single ceiling tile in his office, you trigger the requirement for an additional contract. I am familiar with the asbestos requirements in public projects and experiencing double costs is not at all unusual.
Do any of you recall reading this when the OD first reported on the renovation budget? Or ever? He claims he told them when they interviewed him about it.
