Council’s budget power may come into play soon.I love this quote: “We’ve been getting justifications for the department’s budget needs, and we’ve been getting the ability to see how they might bring in revenue,” Donovan said.Doesn't anyone ever give any thought as to creative ways to cut spending instead of trying to find more ways to suck money out of everyone???

That ended when they realized the taxpayers will vote to approve anything with an increase, just not a 32% increase.

Ralph, they're just taking the county's lead. Picente made it very clear last year that there were only two options available to meet their shortfall: higher property tax or higher sales tax.

This is the very thing that is pushing people out the door of New York State.
One could almost handle the tax increase from one entity to another over time. But when you have the water bill going up almost 30%, utilities out of sight, and then county, school and city taxes all going up as well..........ARRGGHHHHH!!!
I have friends in Indiana where we are going that have a $250K home and pay less in taxes and fees than I do on our $32K home (and the property values are really no different from here) so there is something incredibly wrong with this picture.

True, but the local pundits don't help any. They just feed off the state.

Well.......when the last real taxpayer has either moved away or died they will be feeding of each other!
Let's see how they like it then!!!

doubtful, they'll just tax our estates or reach an agreement with the rest of the states.

Ralph, when the last taxpayer moves away, I hope he remembers to turn out the lights.
