Crestron, who's Motto is "We Control The World", Is one of the Manufacturers of Pricey High Tech Multi Media Geek Toys I use regularly,(Touch Panels, Processors, Routers, Control Systems...). They have a program that donates High end Home Theaters to Military Rehab and Hospitals that care for our Wounded and disabled Service Members. These are $30K+ installations and get the Service Members out of their rooms and back into socializing. Ive met the Owner of the Company George Feldstein a few times at schools they sponsor. 2 out of 3 times he was in blue jeans and a well used work shirt, looked more like the janitor! He is always asking us questions about his 1000 + different products and giving us answers on the how's, why's and when's of the good the bad and the ugly. He has 2000+ employees and I think he knows them all. He's the real deal and a self made Millionaire many, many times over. He has his own Machine shop in the main Plant that he uses regularly in case his 50+ Product Engineers aren't moving fast enough for him! This is a pretty cool thing and Ive recently committed to donate my Companies physical resources for any projects of this kind in Upstate/ CNY funded through this program. Just to let you know, there are still 100% American Manufacturers of High Tech Electronics In this Country and not far from here, they are giving back to the Nation, makes me proud to be a Crestron Dealer. www.crestron.com/partnerships/crestron_eagles_program/

I've been out of the computer business for awhile & have never done any business with Creston. I looked them up when you mentioned them a week or so ago & from their web site they looked like a pretty cool company. Your link today certainly reinforces that impression.

CB, the school I just completed was Digital Media Design and Engineering. It was a bear of a course for those of us not up on the latest Networking Acronyms. I even learned how to terminate Fiber Optic Cables, Its really amazing stuff but now I have to buy a $3200 termination Kit to do it! Terminations are a snap compared to the Networking Garbage!
They do really have cutting edge delivery and control systems and that is becoming a necessity as humans are replaced by automated processors paired with their Electro-mechanical Clients.

Terminating fiber optic cables is something about which I should learn more. (Wait I forgot I'm retired.) I know something about lapping & polishing surfaces from my days manufacturing magnetic heads. Doing it quickly and inexpensively so that you can mate cables without excessive losses seems tricky to me.
Do either the cables or the termination kits come from Fiber Instrument Sales in Oriskany?

Most of the Fiber in the world is made by Corning. The kits are a mish mash of manufacturers. No lapping is necessary. The $2000 cable chopper scores and breaks the glass like a precision glass cutter. My first 2 connections were less than .061 DB loss and up to 6 is allowable. 1000' with virtually no loss and a 8Gig band width. Pretty impressive stuff.

Looks like a great company. You don't mind folks making tons of bucks when they are so willing to give back to others.

Ralph, they are really on the cutting edge, no short term widgets. Many have tried to copy them, nobody comes close. Their Systems have been used for decades to manage, control and add Wow. They are 5 years ahead of any competitor. That's going to be huge when the Analog Sunset Occurs in 2013. The market is allready shifting to Accomodate HDCP. Our HD content will be limited and is already beginning to be now every time we Plug an HDMI cable into our Display. If you can find a DVD/ VCR Combo Unit with an HDMI Connection, buy it, they are history and will be handy later on! I digress, George is an innovator, a philanthropist and a proud American, His Product Lineup is American made today and always. The Headquarters in Rockliegh has a flawless giant US Flag flying above the Crestron Logo Flag. His company helps small companies such as mine survive and thrive through protected product lines, creative programs, great training and awesome support. He also supports our Wounded Soldiers, It don't get any better than that!
