www.uticaod.com/features/x1700901795/Accident-slows-traffic-at-intersection-of-Genesee-and-OriskanyWhen I worked at the OD, the intersections at Genessee and Oriskany as well as at John St and Oriskany were high accident intersections. Most of the accidents ocurred when someone tried to beat a yellow light and cross Oriskany St. That is pretty damned wide intersection to try and fly through on the yellow, but morons keep on trying. I always looked both ways more than once before entering those two intersections. Red light cameras have put a stop to a lot of that crap here. $175 ticket makes people think twice before playing russian roulette with opposing traffic.

In the past few years, every intersection around here is dangerous. With the influx of immigrants to the area, many drive but don’t know or follow traffic laws. And some folks just ignore them altogether. I can’t tell you the amount of times I have seen folks zip right through red lights and stop signs without even bothering to look, and cell phones………they are permanently attached to the hands of some.
The UPD could park a car outside our drive thru and ticket at least a quarter of the customers as they exit!

Can't understand how many immigrants pass the driving exam. I have noticed that too. I have even seen some driving cars without inspection stickers of their car. I guess the police are cracking down on people who walk in the streets regardless if there is a sidewalk or not. I have seen people walking three or four a breast without any regard for traffic. Several weeks ago several people were crossing Genny and Bleecker on the green light holding up traffic and I really believe tempting some driver to hit them.

Maybe we should start driving on the sidewalk. They are in better shape than the streets are.

Maybe we should start driving on the sidewalk. They are in better shape than the streets are. Ya make a good point, Ralph. ;D It's not just the immigrants who cause many of the accidents. It's those in our society who just refuse to obey any laws. They don't believe in walking on sidewalks and they don't believe in any traffic signs or lights. Just sit on the corner of York and Court St and you'll see what I mean. It's like there is no traffic light there at all. Every other car goes through that light without hesitation and that is a school area. The same with walking in the road. First their excuse is no one shovels their sidewalks in the winter and now it's because the sidewalks are bad. GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK! They're just too lazy to walk up and down the curbs, which I might add, many are curbs for the handicap. These people walk in the road, winter, summer, spring and fall. They started this "fad" and now they refuse to abide by the laws. I am so happy the UPD are givng out tickets for that like crazy. Long over-due. This is just another way for us to take back our streets and it's working.

I used to tell Franco that if we started running over them in the road, that after the first dozen or so they would be glued to the damn sidewalks! ;D

OK, now I need help remembering something. I remember an old science fiction story of a society with pedestrians and drivers at war. The cops were on pogo sticks so as not to take sides.
I don't remember any great point but a lot of good written images. One that sticks with me is that of an old lady with a walker caught in the cross walk when the light changed. She pulled out her .45 to take out the driver of the car which was speeding at her, putting the bullet right at the base of the windshield where she knew there was a weak spot in the armor.
I'm sorry, what was the topic again?

Oh, I remember now. (Actually I cheated ane went back & peeked.)
I would nominate the arterial for overall terrible ramp design. Of particular note are Burrstone Rd to the northbound arterial, Oriskany Blvd. to southbound arterial and the close packed French Rd/Lomond Pl./840/Rt 8 entrances/exits both sides.
If someone told me that Oriskany to southbound arterial was designed by a cabal of auto body repair shops I would believe it.
