After reading this, which the info is made known to the county also, how can Oneida County not say the deputies are not worth more? Right now they are getting A-1 law enforcement for bargain basement prices. I just keep beating my head against the wall. I even parked my truck at the county building Wednesday with signs in the window that the legislators had to pass to get in the garage for their meeting. Never heard anything about it though....go figure. This story was aired on WKTV tonight Jan. 31, 2008, plus county govt. has now formed a committee to research the Sheriff's raise. Another ball breaking stall tactic.....go figure again.

Sheriff Daniel G. Middaugh reports some 2007 statistics on various Sheriff’s office operations. The Sheriff’s mandated functions include: providing countywide Law Enforcement, operating the Correctional Facility, custody and transportation of prisoners, security and services to the courts.
The Sheriff continues to lead the fight against Arson, Sexual Abuse, Domestic Violence, Drug Abuse and crimes against children and seniors.
During 2007 the Law Enforcement Division responded to 12760 dispatched complaints throughout Oneida County and investigated/executed 706 criminal warrants. These figures do not include direct responses by deputies, traffic stops, criminal investigations and various follow-up activities. There were 1802 arrests. The Criminal Investigation Unit investigated 1647 serious criminal cases.
Deputies investigated 1685 motor vehicle accidents and issued 8380 traffic tickets for various offenses. 222 DWI arrests were made. Seasonal patrols of waterways and snowmobile trails are conducted annually. Sheriff’s Deputies traveled over 112,174 miles transporting Juvenile Detention cases in 2007. Deputies also transport adult prisoners daily.
Total jail admissions in 2007 were 4487 and daily average population increased by over 50. Total revenue is estimated at $3.2 million. In 1993, 2,986 inmates were admitted by comparison.
Daily jail populations fluctuate and have ranged from peaks of 565 to approximately 415 since the new complex was opened in late 1998. Over $67 million in total revenue has been generated during Sheriff Middaugh’s administration.
The Sheriff provides DARE Programs in 15 elementary schools and assigns School Resource deputies in 4 schools. Deputies conducted 251 tobacco enforcement compliance checks throughout the county. Violators were issued summonses.
The installation and use of video cameras mounted on first line Sheriff’s Patrols is being expanded. This technology permanently documents transactions between Deputies and the public. Cameras are a deterrent to aggressive behavior and tapes are a record that are valuable as evidence.
The Sheriff’s Office received the STOP-DWI Law Enforcement Agency of the Year Award in 2007.
