From Frank Tomaino's column in today's O.D.~~Utica mayor Vincent R. Carrou will not permit the play, "Tobacco Road" to be performed in the city. He tells Harry Goodwin, manager of the Majestic Theater on LaFayette St, that "many Uticans protest the play for many reasons". Goodwin says he will cancel the booking.
Hundreds of Uticans, led by the city's Catholic clergy, say that the play is indecent & immoral. It is based on a novel by Erskine Caldwell.Holy guacamole.

Yes but way back then there was a condemned book and movie list that was required for Catholics. Except for those priests, brothers and sisters who liked little boys

Little did we know then that a theater on Nichol's Street would later show soft porn, and that the concerned Catholic clergy would all have to live in the shadow of sex abuse committed by their fellow priests.
