OK, I understand 50 posts made me a green horn but, how does one attain Karma? I have 1 Karma Buck but where does it come from?

I'm not a fan of karma and have disabled it on my proboards board (MoreStories). Under each name to the left of a post is "exalt" or "smite." Hitting one or the other increases or decreases the karma each time. Someone here a year or so ago wound up with 1,200 or so karma. I'm not sure if some patient soul sat there and pouned the exalt that many times or if an admin simply entered it.
Here, I'll exalt you twice and so you'll have a karma of three. Whoops! Sorry, guess I can either exalt or smite you only once an hour. That must be new.

Karma is like reputation points I have seen on other forums. There was a car forum I used to be on that had "rep" and the WKTV comment section has a spot for scoring posts.
Basically it is a way attempt to assess good posters from not so good. With respect to the car forum, it was mostly looked at as posters with lots of knowledge and usefullness on the board had higher rep. It has its good points and bad. Someone who doesn't like another poster can simply keep giving them negative points each post they find by them.
This forum is more free-flowing so I don't know if "karma" is really useful in gauging posters.

Karma here at the corner has never been a realistic way of rating posters. It is simply a way of lauding a post or smiting them to show a negative reaction to the post or the person posting it. I don't pay much attention to it, nor put any credence in the numbers of Karma points. We have two or three little Karma and smite battles that are ongoing, and humorous to track as the administrator of the forum. Little "peeing contests" I guess you would call them.
Hell, I started the forum and I only have 39 Karma points. I have a true fan out there that eliminates my points faster than anyone can bless me with new one's. LOL. I wonder if they know that I can go to the admin section and give myself or anyone else a thousand or so if I choose to do so, ROFL. Exalting or smiting can be done every hour. It has always been that way Dave. I take it you are like me and don't really pay much heed to that whole thing.

Thanks folks, I guess Karma Chameleon's never been one of my fav songs anyhow. Some people I actually would not like to receive points from, don't know any here but this guy Named Aware and Scared irks me viscerally, he would take all my points anyways in 5 minutes, NBD, PS I give you all 3 points for SAG, Sh*ts and Giggles!!
