Took a ride today to Flo's Diner on Rt 31 (Canastota) for lunch and found out that our little lady, Florence Hoch, owner of Flo's, (the home of the 10 cent cup of coffee) for 35 years passed away at 83 yrs old on Feb 16, 2011. Many of you didn't know her but I can't let her passing go unnoticed. Flo was a wonderful woman who brought smiles to all her customers and put wonderful food in their tummies keeping her prices down for ALL to afford. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a big contributor to her community. Flo was involved in so many lives and truly loved her community and her customers. I being one of them for many, many years. I will miss her as I'm sure all her customers and community will. RIP Flo. God bless you and thank you for all the great meals and smiles you put on our faces.

Damn, can't say I'd been there but for 10 cent coffee, I would have gone for sure. They don't make them like her anymore that is for sure.

Awe BZ, that breaks my heart. I have known Flo ever since 1970 when I drove for Central NY Coach Lines. We used to take Cicero High School ski club skiing in Tully every week in winter, and on the way back after we dropped off the kids, we always stopped at Hammerle's Truck Stop, where Flo was the cook and baker for many years before she opened her own place. When she opened her own place it got nothing but better. She was a fabulous cook. When you look up comfort food in the dictionary, Flo's picture is there. These folks here in the South don't know what comfort food is unless they have been up there and ate at Flo's. haha. Thank goodness her daughter learned all her recipes and how to bake pies from her mom. Flo was a wonderful lady but she could keep order in that place with an iron hand if it became necessary. The last time I was at the restaurant she was retired but she was there and I got to hug her. I had not seen her since we had moved here to Tennessee in 2002. She is a local legend and will be sadly missed.

Damn, can't say I'd been there but for 10 cent coffee, I would have gone for sure. They don't make them like her anymore that is for sure. Her family and friends are still keeping the restaurant open so if you get a chance stop there and I promise you all will be enjoyed. My favorite for lunch or din-din is the liver/onions/bacon or the pork steak. If you like fish their fresh perch dinners are out of this world and so tender. Have to add when my Dad was alive he supplied Flo with all the perch we caught. Had a camp on the pier at Sylvan Beach for many moons so we always got our share of perch to share. For dessert you'll have your choice of homemade cakes, pies, puddings (rice & bread) and my favorite, strawberry shortcake. I will guarantee you will walk out with a very full tummy and money still in your pocket. The amount of food served is unreal and the prices are so cheap. I promise you will not regret making the trip to Flo's, the home of the 10 cent cup of coffee. ;D

Not only the perch dinners BZ, in the spring the bullhead dinners are out of this world. Good old fashioned home cooking no matter what you order there, and affordable too.
