For the newer members as well as for older members that are worried about the OD beginning to charge for some of their content, I simply want to remind you that we have a very good and well managed news outlet at your fingertips.
One only has to go to the Utica Daily News banner at the bottom of the page and click on it. It is an instant link to the UDN site and I read it daily.
You will find that the comments and discussion features there are much more user friendly, as is the rest of the site. Most of the same local stories are featured there, as is most of the pertinent national and world news. The only thing I have ever found lacking there is the fact that they don't seem to carry the full area obituaries that the OD does.
I personally went to the UDN offices when I was home the last time and met all the people responsible for bringing the news to us. Former OD Photographer Nancy Ford is there, as are several other very talented reporters that bailed from the OD and took their talents where they would be appreciated. It is a great place, manned by great people. It is in relative infancy compared to it's competition, but without the print edition to drag it down, I think it has found a niche in Utica's news arena and is there to stay.
Not only do I read the UDN page daily, I also link from there to the Bill Keeler web broadcast. I love Keeler. He may be controversial, but he is a great guy and brought a little life to a relatively boring Utica radio scene. I wish him success in his new endeavor.
If you haven't tried it lately, click on the UDN banner and read the news on their site. It is easy to navigate and the comment section is very user friendly and fun.
Thanks UDN for linking us on your site, and we are grateful to be allowed to link to you on ours. Incidentally, that is something that the OD would not do when we started our site.
