Details obtained in HCCC assault caseI don't understand why the school won't release any information. I also don't understand why the paper hasn't pursued the Herkimer Town Court for the information. If these two other students have been charged, then it's public information the court would have to disclose.

If these two other students have been charged, then it's public information the court would have to disclose. Well, from the college's standpoint, I'm sure they have some confidentiality issues. But once the cops are involved and they are not minors, the court cannot withhold the information, it is public record. What disturbs me is that the college security has the option of including the cops in things like this. What? Assaults took place, one a stabbing. Aren't those potential felonies? The security and the college shouldn't have the option, it should be manditory to involve legal authority in situations like this.

Do you think maybe it's because they're a state school? I know other SUNY schools have state troopers for campus security.

I would speculate that it would be the jurisdiction of campus security, not that of the local police.
