I found this recipe in Sunday's paper for Beer Bread, which uses no yeast (which I try to avoid at all costs) but a can of beer instead. Made it yesterday, & it's great!! If anyone wants the recipe, let me know..

"Easy Beer Bread" 3 cups self-rising flour 3 tablespoons of sugar 1 can (12oz) beer-room temperture Mix all together-place in greased loaf pan Let rise for 10 minutes Bake at 350- one hour Sound familiar? So freaking easy and so damn good.

Very close!
This one calls for 3 1/2 cups flour, 1 Tbl. spoon baking powder, 1 1/2 tsp. salt (obviously since the flour is not self-rising), 3 Tbl. spoons sugar & the beer.
But then they say to mix it 'quickly' (?), form it into a ball, put it on a cookie sheet, use a knife to carve an "X" on it, they baste it with an egg wash. 375 degrees for 45 min.
I like the sounds of yours better, Bobbie. I would rather have a loaf than this "pumpernickel-type" shape. AND we didn't care for the egg wash; I'd rather baste it with olive oil.

I'm guessing it might be the same recipe that we had in our paper this past Sunday also. Thanks for testing it out so I know if I should make it or not ;D www.usaweekend.com for recipe and video how to make it

Yeah Stoney, it's optional but I do baste mine with either olive oil or just milk. Both are similar and probably taste the same. My family loves it and since it's so easy to make we have it often. Just a little hint- cut it with an electric knife and cut the slices thicker then a normal slice of bread.

That's where I got it from, Chris!! I just made some more the other way today, Bobbie. It's still so damned hard to cut (I didn't use an electric knife), but tastes really great. Jim says we don't need a gun around here; if someone breaks in, we'll just throw the bread at them. Ain't he sweet??

lol! That's why I said to use an electric knife. Much easier to cut and ya can cut it in thinner slices. I like it toasted too. Plus, if you use milk to baste the top it is softer to cut.
