A local Rome police officer, Officer Donald Moore, has been nominated for an award from "America's Most Wanted All-Star." What a honor but well deserved by Officer Moore. He saved several lives in the AT&T store last spring when he fatally shot a gunman who opened fire in the NY Mills store.
The voting is ending this Sunday (tomorrow) if you would like to vote for Officer Moore and help him bring home the honor to our area.
To vote for Moore visit: www.amw.com/allstar/2011 and enter "Moore" into the search box to find his profile.
Win or lose just being nominated is a great honor and Officer Moore is a hero in all our eyes. Lets give him the support he deserves and cast your vote for this fine Officer. ;D
One local reporter is taking this one step further in investigating the split-second decision police officers have to make in the course of doing their jobs...such as whether or not to shoot someone. The UPD is going to show her firsthand exactly what they're up against in having to make a life or death decision by taking her to experience the shooting simulator our police use for training. She will be writing another article once she does this.
I will guarantee you she will have a whole different outlook and respect for police officers when she goes through this experience.
Ralph and I experienced this in the Citizen's Police Academy and it opened up everyone's eyes to just how extremely difficult this is for officers. I don't care how well one shoots a gun because it's not just about how well one shoots. In these life situations with people moving around, some innocent by-standers present, and having to keep track of everyone while you're being attacked in one form or another and make a decision in split-seconds whether to shoot or not, the best of shooters will f**k up. I guarantee you that. In fact I'm willing to stake my life on it.
Can't wait till this reporter has this experience. She will be just another citizen who will learn a greater respect for our police officers and learn not to judge so quickly. I know that as fact.
