I am sure she is Stoney. Politics doesn't require a person to be "QUALIFIED" for a position. Just of the correct party affiliation and willing to do the bidding of the one you end up indebted to. BINGO.

I likes Roann, I know she drew tons of fire for actually getting somewhere with the OIN and Collecting Taxes all without costing me more money! The Neigh Sayers all swore drunks would flood our highways, they didn't and now the booze is being poured by individuals with a NYS License to do so. That's a good thing isnt it?
The Beeches brought her much experience I would believe. Its one of the few non franchise eateries left in business in Rome, not bad food either.
I hope Someday Ray and His AV folks will give my Multimedia Company a chance at some of his Business. Would that preclude me from public office?
So far I'm pretty happy with our new Governor, and Surprised! If he wants her, I want him to have her. New blood in her old seat isn't bad either. I do believe she deserves some credit for her service, thanks Ro!
I support the widespread success of the entire region and I think She does also, she pays many paychecks out to many local taxpayers every week via her enterprises. I hope shes as successful in her next job as she was in the last one, for all our sakes.

One of the things I notice is that little or no mention is made of Mrs Destito's qualifications for the job. Like some management or executive experience in property leasing, construction or purchasing. I realize that she married into a family restaurant & hotel business. However, she has maintained over the years that there was no conflict of interest in her late husband's dealings with the OIN because sher was not involved with the business. Why do we have any expection that she could effectively manage a large organization? Directly involved or not, she profitted nonetheless. She's just one more swiney politician. In terms of the OIN, she did absolutely nothing to help her district resolve the issue. She got rich and that was that. she kept silent on the issues pertaining to the OIN. She sat on a state commission dealing with Indian Affairs for years and also on another commission dealing with the liquor authority and liquor permits.

BTW, NYS should just finally legalize gambling. Legalize, regulate and tax it, just the way NYS would anything else. But, as we've seen, proposed casinos in other parts of the state like Onondaga County and the Catskills, have met with political opposition. Must be no palms to grease.

When asked how she and the other state legislators planned to address the ever increasing budget deficit, Roann said, "Obviously we need to find other revenue sources." Shortly thereafter, Gov. Paterson proposed the "obesity" tax. Why would you support that type of person? Clearly, she could care less that the New York taxpayer is broke.
How many studies has she commissioned to study ways to reduce government spending and improve government efficiency? How many of those studies' reports did she publish?
When her fellow democrats in the state senate walked out, she supported their efforts, knowing it costs thousands (possibly millions) of taxpayer dollars to do NOTHING!
Her late husband owned the beeches, while she sat on the VERY committee that has ONLY allowed the beeches to do business with OIN, and none others. If you wanted an example of a textbook definition of conflict of interest, one need look no further! Yet, she declared it was not and has received no repercussions for it.
Sadly, we have no one to blame for this... it is not her fault she is so corrupt. It is not her fault she was allowed to stay on that committee. It is not her fault the committee she SAT ON steered millions of dollars to her late-husband's business (that she now owns). No, we have no one to blame for her 20+-year career as a state assemblyman. The voters, however, are a different story. Year in and year out, we hear about all the corrupt and inept actions destito engages in, yet she's still there. This last election, she ran against another token candidate, and surprise, surprise she won.
I do my part and vote for anyone not already in office. But I'm still in the vocal minority! American voters should take a lesson or two from Egyptians, who single-handedly, and without firing a shot, caused a regime change!

You should hear my dad. I sound like a kitten compared to him on this subject.
I am curious to know everyone's thoughts about Anthony Brindisi being the local Democrats' pick to replace her. I read some of the comments on the disgrace's press release. I met him once. He seemed like a down-to-earth guy. I love the slam against attorneys in the comment section. If I am considered a fat cat in the upper class, then you all are dirty filthy stinkin' rich!

From what I'm hearing from the Democrat screening committee here in Utica, they just don't have much to choose from in candidates. Very few even want to run for any position. That's pretty sad.
