Ya gotta wonder about those folks. I can still hear my grandmother saying, "Don't make a spectacle of yourself!" I suppose appearing in front of thousands in a oddball outfit appeals to some part of their personality. But it can get cold! Like the Cowboy who walks around Manhattan in nothing but his ten gallon hat and jockey shorts. And his guitar.

Of course, you have heard about the optometrist who fell into a lens grinding machine & made a spectacle of himself.

That a good one.
I was wondering I guess the Mayor is on a rush to build this thing. I wonder what happens if the roundabout is not complete and the new elections bring a new Mayor. So far it looks like Utica will be in a mess financially, what with the cut coming from Albany and especially not that the Senate passed the property tax gap that Cuomo wants--at least todays New York Time reported that today.

I travel this every day going to work and other places. I have to cut across from Oneida St. to State St., and while it is a pain to wait for the lights (which are well timed) it is not a big challenge.
While I am all for progress, this I just don’t see. Yes, it looks idyllic and serene……until the buses and tractor trailers come rumbling through while the traffic from Oneida St and Park Ave (which oppose each other to begin with) try getting through.
People here don’t know what traffic congestion really is, they should try driving in Albany or Boston, if they miss a light, they think their day is ruined….try sitting at one for 15-20 minutes…on a good day.
I can make it to work on average within 10-15 minutes, don’t see it happening with this in place. Looks like an accident just waiting to happen……every few minutes.
Like Clipper pointed out, no matter where the money comes from it is ours to begin with. Seems we ought to have some input on what it is spent on. Yes, they have public meetings, but they are usually nothing more than formalities to sooth everyone and the plan is already sealed. I too would rather see the money go to repaving than I would this “project”.

Must be quite a popular guy....he has his own FB page. On youtube (is your guy?) We have our own in Rochacha but he is know as Festival Bob...can be found at any Rochacha event. Ours isn't homeless or harmful....just excentric. He runs everyday in just shorts and a cap...even in dead of winter. Chris, this isn't Cowboy. This is another one I use to throw out of the bar all the time. Just can't think of his name. Both are severe alcoholics and have very mean dispositions if they're confronted. Not a pleasure to deal with. My Dad when he delivered for Chicago Mkts felt sorry for Cowboy and gave him a job helping with the deliveries which didn't last long. Cowboy assault a male customer because the customer wasn't quick enough opening the door for Cowboy. Thank God my Dad was able to pull Cowboy off the guy. The guy knew and liked my Dad so the customer didn't take any further action or my Dad would have lost his business. My son, Vinny, is in this video. He's sitting right in front of the guy dancing around. I'll have to show it to him when he comes over.

That music sounded like "Korn", but the audience was much too subdued for it to be them.

If that's the one I'm thinking, he's a total nitwit. Used to hang around a couple joints on the east side?

Yes Kracker, he wore a hat most of the time and sometimes just a bandanna. He tried to come into Rick's Place on Mohawk St when I worked there but after dealing with him in W.Utica I refused to serve him and threw him out. When I ran TR's afterhour breakfast place for TR when she was in the hospital, he'd come in there also and always started trouble with the other customers. Everyone thought he was funny at first but then he'd get out of control. Better not to deal with him. Personally, I think the southern drawl was a put-on cause when he tried to argue with me, he had no drawl. Big phony in many ways.

We had a discussion about roundabouts here late last night after my older daughter arrived from Myrtle Beach (she drove from 70 degrees & sunny to zero degres & blowing snow for a vacation). A half dozen roundabouts have been added to her route.
She reported that she saw a near accident or was nearly involved in an accident at each one and she is not a big fan. Evidently her Garmin is not fond of them either.

CB, quiz her carefully about the the size of the roundabouts to be sure they weren't traffic circles. A near accident at every roundabout one goes through is surely unusual. Also, I would have thought she might take I95 and 81 and been on Interstates 99 percent of the time, as we do when we drive here. (I'm just below MB in Surfside.)
NYSDOT says one of the main impediments to the building of roundabouts is that people just don't like them because they feel dangerous and I'm guessing that's because the cars are in closer proximity. I still remember negotiating the traffic circle in Kingston (NY) as I exited the Thruway and the difference today as I go through the roundabout. It's like day and night, even though the roundabout has been there now for about five years and there are still people complaining about it. Accidents have been reduced significantly and injuries by double that amount, I remember reading. since speeds are drastically lowered. Because of the smaller radius, drivers who might run into you are now in your line of sight at between ten and eleven o'clock, instead of back over your shoulder as they were in the traffic circle. You can often see another driver's inattention, similar to when you are wondering if a driver is going to pull out from a side street in front of you, whereas before the distances and speeds diminished that possibility.
But then, in the right places, I'm a fan of roundabouts. And of course that leaves the money question aside.
