Black history events at Utica libraryLast year, I read an article by Ms. Tucker in the Lansing State Journal. She attacked schools for reducing black history month to only the big name football players, basketball players, and rap artists. She also made a convincing argument for integrating "black history" into "regular" history, taught year round. Black Americans have contributed substantially to American society and most us don't even know. I wonder how many kids today know who the Tuskegee Airmen were and their struggle to achieve recognition as combat pilots who were as capable or better than their white counterparts. How many kids know the many contributions black scientists made throughout American History? How many know about the late justice Thurgood Marshall?
