I all my 64 years, Utica has never been known for their stellar snow removal program. It is much better now than it was when all they had was belly plows. At least now the do have a few front blades to do the complete job when the snow is deep. The belly plows are great in some places and if the operator knows how to drive one, they can cover a lot of ground in a hurry. It's amazing the difference between Rte. 5 here in Schuyler & what it looks like as soon as you hit the Oneida County/Utica line. Clear roads vs. messy roads.

I think that the credit should go to the DPW crews, unless of course Roefaro is out there plowing snow with a blade on the front of his hearse, LOL. Don't know about that Clipper. For years we've had the same old DPW crews and my area here was always forgotten. Something changed in the last few years.

I still say that when it all shakes out, if Roefaro isn't out there plowing the snow, the credit goes to the DPW crews and their commissioner.

Well, I figured you would cause you're not the one who lived in my area for years when we stayed snowed in for days while East Utica and South Utica had no problems getting plowed out. This is the first administration and the first council man we've had in W.Utica that makes sure we're not forgotten or the last on the totem pole. Someone shook someone up in the DPW department. ;D

I would credit Zecca before I would credit the mayor. If he is not much different than any other mayor, he looks out his window after a snow and if HIS street is plowed, he figures all is well and the DPW is doing fine. (never thinking that his street is probably plowed on a priority basis, lol) He can't see W. Utica from his living room window and can't see Andes Ave from his office window either. When do ya think was the last time he drove up Erie St? He would probably have to look on a map to see where anything west of the arterial even is. From what you say Zecca is on the ball. Mayor Roefaro? From what I read, he is just another East Utica politician, in it for his friends and family just as every Mayor since Lou LaPolla. He was the last mayor I remember that worried about the real problems instead of re-election and keeping his buddies employed.

I did not vote for Roefaro and he isn't a fan of mine but have to give credit when it's due. Utica's politicians will always be criticized but I don't see them being any worse then the rest in the nation. One thing I can definitely say is that someone in Utica is doing something right because a few months ago we were rated number five on the list for being the safest city to live in the nation and....... Utica was featured on the Good Morning America program this morning for being rated number one in the most livable housing in the nation. What more can I say?

The most liveable housing in the nation. What did they do? Bring them into town on Genessee St from New Hartford, go over the parkway and back up Higby Rd and back to Syracuse to the airport?

In answer to your post Stoney, you are quite right about that. When I lived on Leeds St years ago (1970's) I always said if I could get out of the city, I could get to work in Rome, and that was the truth.
