Police: Vernon man shot in headSounds pretty serious if the police are not releasing any details other than the victim was shot in the head and that his death is a homicide. Hopefully the police will be able to resolve this quickly before another death occurs and are close to apprehending the suspect. My condolences to the family.

My speculation is mob related. Not just because of the manner of death, but also because the victim's last name was a big name around here in organized crime.

This was the cousin of a good friend of mine. It's probably gonna get worse as they suspect a relative. I don't want to say too much, but I'll try and keep you posted.

I knew a relative that worked at Griffiss, and have met this guy. He didn't seem like the "mob connected" kind of guy. I would hope that real "organized" crime has left the area, except for the drug trade, and I don't think that the old italian stallions are running that show.
I will reserve judgement and not try to suspect any wrongdoing by the victim until law enforcement has made a determination of the actual motive. I have never seen a black 39 buick with a guy hanging out the window with a felt hat and tommy gun , cruising the streets of Vernon NY. Not even in the heyday of the Downs.
I will have the respect for the family and will not try to outguess law enforcement as to the motive.
If it is a relative, that is a very sad thing, and the family deserves even MORE courtesy.
No offense intended Froggy, or no attempt to stifle discussion. I just do not agree with your scenario at this time in the investigation.

We will need to patiently wait until the police are able to release more information.

Don't hold your breath waiting, swimmy.
Who is served by the police releasing so little information so regularly lately? I can understand keeping a few things confidential to preserve a crime scene or protect an investigation. But they say almost nothing now for many many months after the crime.

Maybe it's the department's attempt to prevent the public from convicting the suspect before the wheels of justice can turn out some magic?
Otherwise, I have no idea.

All I can say is I don't know the deceased. I'm only passing on info from a relative who was "connected" and that last name was a connected name. Whether or not its coinicidence or completely unrelated, who knows. It seems particularly disturbing that he was found shot in the head, though.

I dont think the NYSP or the Oneida County D A , will release any information in the news media at this time as it will jeopardize the investigation, I do however beleive that at some point there will be a news conference, regarding updated information they wil release without impeding the investigation.

My apologies and the reason why I started my first post in this thread off with "speculation". There was miscommunication over the phone between my relative and I over this case. Sam Giancana was a big mob boss, the victim here is spelled Giacona. Apparently I did not speak clearly enough over the phone.

How awful that a 13-year old had to be the one to find his father dead like that. My heart aches for that boy.

Not something any child should have to come home to.

I talked to my friend today who is a cousin to the man shot. They are still waiting for some forensic stuff to come back. Keep your fingers crossed that this doesn't go in the wrong direction. When I can tell you more, I will.
