Griffo, Destito introduce bill to make force against police a felony
I've made the argument before, don't elevate one group to everyone else's detriment, especially when there are adequate law on the books. We have current assault laws in existence that are felonies. Why not encourage use of our existing laws?

I guess I am ignorant of the law, but I thought it was already a felony to assault a police officer.

i see your point swimmy, sort of like a hate crime.. i never get that.. if you commit a crime against somebody you like you should not get in as much trouble??

murder is murder, assault is assault... trying to get your face in the paper as a do-gooder and a cruisader of justice is lame...

Well, I'm glad to see that Griffo and Destito have rolled up their sleeves and started off the New Year getting down to the important issues facing this state. Why waste time haggling over cutting the cost of government and the cost of doing business in NY state when you can throw all your energy into making a felony a felony? Good work, team!

Assault and Related Offenses

Why not just elevate Assault 3rd to a Class D felony and create an Assault 4th and classify it as a class E felony? Take out the physical injury requirement.
