Exactly.
Clipper, making everything Illegal in the interest of health and safety starts a dangerous trend. Where does that rationale end? Soon the sweets will not be available cause they contribute to diabetes. Steak and other red meat will be banned due to increase in heart disease. Most other foods banned because they cause obesity.
I understand your frustration but making something illegal only serves the function that you are publicly stating that you think it's bad. Something can be bad for you and be entirely legal. We're not saying these things are okay. it's a matter of being real about the problem.
As swimmy points out, you'll still have to deal with the addicts. But that's a workable problem. We have measures that have been shown to work. We have nothing to suggest we are winning the war on drugs. The minute one dealer is off the street another steps up to take his place. Demand will always be there so legal or not you will always have this problem. The only question is, do you want all the other problems which clearly outweigh those of legalization? I don't. I'll take 100 more addicts over one dead cop. I'll take 25 more addicts in exchange for 100's of young men being incarcerated and wasting tax payer money. I'll take 1000 more addicts if it will save the lives of a couple children who would have been shot in cross fire of a turf war.
More addicts is a welcome exchange for the multitude of problems created by the illegalization of various drugs.
Swimmy, I agree 100% about your increase in the DWI laws......i don't think it will stop the hard core drunks but soon enough they'll be locked away.
