This will make your skin crawl. The state of New York is putting its foot down, but not before making sure the floor is clean. State housing officials will now require landlords to disclose whether bedbugs have been reported in a rental apartment or anywhere in the building. Gov. David Paterson approved a law two weeks ago that demands building owners fill out and sign a form, called the DBB-N, documenting the premises' history of bedbug infestation. The new law was spurred by a sharp increase in bedbug reports in New York City, arguably one of the world's bedbug capitals (the blood-sucking insects prefer densely populated areas). For the first seven months of 2010, the city's housing agency reported 7,021, a 5.7 percent increase over the same months in the previous year. Of course, that number is likely to decline as would-be renters read landlords' disclosure forms -- and run for the suburbs. A nice picture of the little critter an be found here: www.housingwatch.com/2010/09/16/bedbugs-disclosures-now-required-by-ny-state/?icid=main|htmlws-main-n|dl8|sec3_lnk2|171316

Absolutely disgusting! Whatever happened to people just being clean? Before you know it the taxpayer will have to front classes to teach those who don't know what the word "clean" means.

That would be politically incorrect unless we also start spraying illegal mexican immigrants for Tijuana crotch crickets. We can't be singling out any specific ethnicity.

The sad part is you don't have to be dirty to have them infest your house. All ya need is to bring two of the little buggers home from a hotel in your luggage, one male and one female, and they will be mulitiplying and raising hell while you sleep, haha.
Kathy and I pull back the covers and check the mattresses and such in hotels when we travel, and we NEVER use the dresser drawers. We hang some of our clothes and the rest stay in the suitcase Kathy is still paranoid as hell about bringing the damn things home.
I guess I am not quite as alarmed. I have traveled for my work before I retired, and spent about half my time in hotels and government quarters. the only place I ever encountered a problem was once while I was staying in a suite in the visiting officer's quarters at Tinker AFB Oklahoma. I found cockroaches in the kitchenette. I immediately checked out and made them put me up at a LaQuinta Inn off base.
Bed bugs are like head lice. Everyone is grossed out by the idea of catching an infestation of them, but the chances and odds are against your ever seeing one in your lifetime unless you are staying in a flophouse in the Bronx or a sleazy hotel with a scuzzy clientele.

True, true.......but once you get the little buggers, they are harder to get rid of than an insurance salesman looking to make a buck.

I have heard that there are bedbugs in three of the four apartment buildings in downtown Utica and another infestation at an apartment complex in West Utica. The damn things can jump from person to person. I have developed a habit of staring at people's bare legs and arms to see if I can see any bites. There are many departments store's that have been finding infestations in the clothing that is delivered to be sold to the public. The bugs can hide in the darkness of the items in packaging material. The store Hollister has reported bedbug bite by its employees and customer's. Their store's ae very dark like inside a closet. I have also seen dirty mattresses and some clean matresses( doesn't matter) donated to The Community Food Bank in Utica and these are donated to people.

With all the publicity on bedbugs, I think I have developed the perfect "Keep Yourself Bug Free while Traveling" kit. It involves 2 dry cleaning bags, duct tape & a breathing tube. I may need some help with packaging and marketing. Who's in?

Hmmm. The next time Kathy pokes me in the ribs when she catches me checking out a young ladies legs at the mall, I will tell her I am looking for bedbug bites. Do ya think she'll believe me Bobbbiez?
