I just can't believe some people are so naive to think that this happened solely as part of a political conspiracy. The 4th department does not just suspend licenses because some small time politicians in utica say to. Regardless the relationships, the fact remains that leon has willfully violated a court order by refusing to pay child support, even after his baseless arguments were again found without merit.

Unfortunately, stoney, the children are always made to suffer in family law. Despite the court's best efforts to keep them out of the mess, the parents, with their petty issues, always drag them into it.

NEW HARTFORD — Local attorney Leon Koziol today compared his failure to pay child support for the last two years to the acts of civil disobedience carried out by such figures as Rosa Parks. Koziol, who had his law license suspended last week due to his failure to pay child supports, held a press conference at his New Hartford home to discuss that ruling and what he calls a "draconian" and "antiquated" custody system. "Susan B. Anthony, Martin Luther King Jr. The people who went to the front of the bus. What did they do? They violated the law, and it sent a great message," Koziol said. Koziol, who said he has yet to receive a copy of the state Supreme Court Appellate Division's ruling, plans to appeal and seek reinstatement of his license. Another attorney with his firm will handle his existing cases in the interim, he said. [Uh-huh...he equates himself to Susan B. Anthony & Martin Luther King. What an ass.]www.uticaod.com

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica Attorney Leon Koziol said he lost his license to practice law because of a custody battle over his two children, and held a news conference at his house Monday afternoon to discuss the matter.
According to Koziol, the courts have prevented him from seeing his two young children, whom he said he hasn't seen his two young girls - ages 6 and 8 - since July. Koziol said that he has been in court many times fighting for 50/50 custody as a result.
Koziol said he lost his license to practice law because he walked out of a court hearing involving his kids. He said he also hasn't paid child support in two years.
Koziol said he is the victim of an antiquated family court system, that is unequal and takes away the rights of fathers. Koziol said he wants to change the system so that fathers are able to have equal custody if they want it.
Attorney Rebecca Crance, who is representing Koziol's ex-wife, said her client is very unhappy with Koziol's decision to make their custody battle public.
"We feel the Appellate Division made the appropriate decision," Crance said in a statement. "My client has wanted this very private matter to remain out of the media, but Mr. Koziol has left us no choice. Mr. Koziol has refused to provide any financial support for his children over two years, and has refused every opportunity and court order to see and spend time with his children."
Koziol refutes Crance's statement, calling it "unequivocally untrue."
Koziol said he still has his federal license to practice law, and that there is another lawyer working in his Utica office to handle his current cases.

It's too bad that he wasn't in front of John Balio in Balio's heyday in family court. He might have walked out of the courtroom, but he never would have made it to the door of the court house before he was arrested on contempt charges and jailed.
Years ago I knew a fellow from Marcy who went before Balio. He was being a smartass when he went to court with a little overnight bag and told Balio he was ready to go to jail rather than to buckle to his ex wife's demands. Balio was very cooperative. The young fellow went to OCJ. His little overnight bag was sent to the property room, and his ass was sent to a cell block. It was only two days before he was begging to go back before the judge and make arrangements to make his payments. The next time we saw him in the bar, he was much more humble in speaking of his courtroom adventures and what he was going to tell the judge to do with the support demands.

These so-called antiquated laws have been tested numerous times and guess what, the challengers lost! It's just typical of today's society. Rather than take responsibility for his illegal behavior, he blames it on someone else. It's impossible to reason with such idiocy.

Having a suspended state license is NOT in good standing. It will be a matter of time before your federal admission is under review. In fact, I hope your ex-wife's attorney appraises the federal bar of your fortunate change of circumstance.

I wasn't aware that Susan B. Anthony ever even took the bus! This man is a fool to even try and put himself in her leauge. She is probebly rolling right now. If Susan B. Anthony was ever asked what she thought of Leon Koziel, she would do one of two things: laugh until her corset burst or simply sniff dismissively and say: "The man does not amuse me, and I feel the need to visit the necessary."

I might suggest that he retain a COMPETENT attorney to represent him during his next court proceeding. He might also start considering what property he wants to offer as chattel to the bail bondsman.
I have always heard that "a person that represents themselves in a court of law, has a fool for a lawyer", or something to that effect.
This guy is a real ass. Thank God he didn't go far in politics. We have enough pompous asses governing us already.
I have to imagine that as a successful attorney, his support payments were based on a fairly large annual income. If he is two years in arrears, he owes some BIG bucks. When he loses THIS case, he will most likely be looking for a high place and a rope to hang himself with. Talk about a reality check. Can you imagine from a noted attorney to an out of work, defrocked attorney, looking for a job as a law clerk? How will he pay the huge amount of arrears without the huge income that it was based on?
