Lovinglife, I also read that article on the UDN page. I laughed and shook my head in sympathy for the mayor. Is he actually so damned stupid and ignorant to believe that? As I said on the comment section at UDN, if the OD decided to discriminate against Italians in the city of Utica, they would immediately lose about half of their circulation. They could publish that rag in a broom closet. LOL I read that over the phone to someone I felt needed a good laugh. I could hardly read it, I was laughing so hard. I laughed so hard I cried. I especially like this quote: " Why is it that New Hartford can do that and it's o.k., but for me to put my team together, I mean of competent people -- what do we look like - are we the goombah brothers," he asked. "Is that what we look like? Because that's insulting to me to be very honest with you." Of course, when you look at what they are doing to this city, it isn't funny at all.

I listened to the whole interview on WIBX from the start. I thought the interview went rather well until the subject of Labella came up. The Mayor immedietely went on the defensive & I could tell that he was uncomfortable with the subject. Then he came out with this whopper. Roefaro claimed that at the time that he appointed Labella that there was no other Civil Service list for police chief. Huh? I thought that there were 2 other candidates that took the test that Labella should have taken but signed off leaving Roefaro open to appointing Labella. He repeated his claim twice during the interview. Roefaro better get his facts straight. And the stories go on and on. Who is one to believe? Kracker, from what I understood only one, Williams, signed off and there were more then just two.

Another quote from the above linked article:
This kills me ... they (Roefaro, LaBella, yadayada) are the ones who are killing the city.
Roefaro said the perceived attacks on his administration are normal for the paper and that he thinks it's bad for the city.
"They've exploited this," he said. "They've already condemned us and I haven't even had a response from the state. That's what bothers me and that's why the very essence of what they do will take down down the city."

They say there's gonna be a news conference at 3 today, where Roefaro will address the LaBella/Police Chief issue.

And just as we predicted, labella is the returning psc. Funny, though, how the other two candidates are candidates again... how did that come to be?
