The block of buildings on Bleecker St and John St across from Historic St John's Church are all being completely rebuilt. The facelifts of the buildings really is impressive. I heard that a Karate Gym is renting on building but not sure what is being done with the others. That block of building is the same block that Mayor Julian was going to tear down for more parking but was axed. Just one building(the old Beauty supply shop) was raised.
Anyone else hear anything about this development!

Isn't that where they want to rent lofts for exorbitant prices?

I know they want to put lofts there, but for "exhorbitant prices" I pay $500.00 for rent and that's exhorbitant to me. of course I get to live on the Hill, so there! Yes, I have heard that they are going to put delux lofts up there, but since no one will be able to afford them (no one that I know anyhow), what's the purpose? I am going to start a business called "Making tenemants look livable" and the put blow up dolls in the windows. Who will know? Who will care? I'll make my million, buy the Olbiston, call it ClippersTown and well all be happy again!

Whoever rents would have a nice view of the side of Historic St John's and a beautiful rear view of the North Utica bridge. Now I would pay $800/month for that

That was TR's places. She owned two buildings together and her son after her passing rented it out to the food bank and then the city bought the property. Happy to see someone is doing good with those building cause TR would roll over in her grave if she could have seen them before this started. She always took such pride in her places.

The talk was they wanted to rent to young professionals who could pay $2,000/mo. Parking was going to be the biggest problem.

Nope, $2,000. They want downtown to be like SoHo or something. They figure young professionals can afford it, & they want to draw "artsy" types.

That's nuts. I'm a "younger" professional, can afford it and in no way would move into the city @ this point. There is nothing downtown to offer right now. They must be really hoping that Utica is a "Renaissance City".
I can rent a sweet townhouse in Clinton for $1200 and drive into the city but why would I want to go into the city?
Now, if there was any resemblance to life in a vibrant, buzzing city, I'd see it as somewhat viable.
Didn't they do a similar project on Genesee near the monument a few years back?

Yes, but that wasn't the city's doing. Some couple bought it. I have no idea whatever happened to it.

$2,000 / MONTH. And for all that money ya can watch the bums pee on the side of the building. I see it all the time when I walk up that way to Genney . Hell even I did it once. That ain't Mr. Rogers neighborhood.
