Edgar Allen Poe's first book, "Tamerlane and Other Poems" brought over $662,000 at auction. That is a little out of my price range. Maybe after they have read it, they will put it up on amazon, and I will wait until I see it drop to about $12 and I can afford to buy it. Just the other day Dave you said there is not much money in "used books". LOL

I buy them used from Amazon. Like I've said: It helps save the environment.

I always buy used 'cause they're cheaper. I think selling books through Amazon has been a boon to used bookstores. Not all of them are can deliver the goods, however. Twice I've been stung by Amazon used sellers, although in each case I got my money back. On the other hand, most transactions have gone flawlessly.

It simply amazes me that collectors pay that much money for a single book. It is truly a valuable book, but $662,000 is a lot of damn money. Of course when you look at other items, such as art, and the millions that are paid for paintings, it is but a trivial amount to own a piece of literary history.

My girlfriend wanted a certain book, The Five Fingers, a long time ago. I had a hard time finding it, but ended up paying almost $50 for a used copy from Amazon.
