Does anyone have Windows Defender. My tech threw that on and now when I upgraded to AVG 9.0 I got a message that I need to address WD before it can finish the installment of AVG. I checked WD as message said it was turned off but when I opened the WD program it is on and has been doing its job. Not sure why this is occuring. I then decided to by pass the message and see if AVG would complete its install which it did. I have since gone back to WD to see if anything was turned on or off but can't see anything. Any idea to this occurance. Do I even need Windows Defender maybe its not compatible to AVG. Thanks.

Sometimes during the initial installation of any products such as the two there can be a "conflict of interest", and as you saw it usually irons itself out once the both "realize" they mean each other and the system the are protecting no harm.
I have been running Defender since it came out in Beta form and have found it to be a very useful program. It now comes as part of Windows OS.
I ran it when I had AVG and now that I have avast!, worked well with AVG and still getting along with avast! as well as the rest of the anti-malware software I run.
If you have any questions about it Chris, feel free to ask.

It's usually not a good thing to have more than 1 anti-virus program installed Chris. AVG is a good program.
I'm a Micro$oft fanboy and am using the new Microsoft Security Essentials. Defender is kinda bundled into this program. It's a lot better than Live One Care which this replaced.

I might have lept before I looked on this one. From what I now understand is that it is part of IE7. I never had the icon on my desktop before but when I got my PC back from my tech friend it was on there. He has a habit of installing more than I like rather than what I just had initially. But when I saw it on there he told me I didn't need to do anything just run Spy bot. Windows Defender is a Spy ware Mal-ware add on not a another anti virus but maybe something for some reason happened recently for me to be getting these messages saying it was not on when it was doing its job. Well I removed it . Then decided to read further after I saw the icon still on my desktop after removal and rebooting. When I clicked on the icon it said there was nothing there. Now seems I can't remember if a while back I installed IE 8, when I thought it was IE7. I remember uninstalling something as it would then no longer allow me to access my banking and other places. I probably could uninstall IE7 and reinstall it again and then get back Windows Defender......not sure at this point so I best not do more I think till I am more certain. Why does this always happen around the full moons. (things going awry)

I'm not a big windows fan and find that most of their software has so many flaws in it, I'm better off using just the operating system and as many non-microsoft programs as possible. I found windows defender to be one of those hugely flawed programs that microsoft is pushing in an attempt to solidify a vertical monopoly. I turned it off and disabled the family service thing as when they were activated nothing would work correctly. I use avast for antivirus and find it better than avg.

Well what ever happened or I did my Explorer seems to be messed up. I really hate the thought of having to uninstall and then reinstalling it. Has anyone ever uninstalled their Explorer......I'm not sure what I will wind up loosing in the process. (headache time...can't deal with it right now) Or if I upgrade it to the curent IE will that correct whatever is wrong....anyone? Right now I have to keep refreshing my page as I keep getting message that Internet can't access the page and get a blank white page till I hit refresh button. Urggggh!!!!

If you feel the need to un-install Explorer and reinstall whatever version you want, don't fret.
You can export your Favorites to a designated folder and then go ahead and un-install it. After you reinstall whatever version you want you can go ahead and import those Favorites right back to where you had them.
Just make sure to do whatever updates the version of Explorer you install needs afterwards.
