It is a sad day in my opinion that Larry has lost to former Legislator Bill Hendricks, especially by such a slim margin. Makes me wonder if the sales of Olde English malt and Colt 45 went up significantly on Election Day? But I won’t dwell on that aspect. Instead I will offer my condolences to Larry for his loss after giving himself fully, not only to his campaign, but to his term as my districts Legislator. This is indeed a sad day for the constituents in Cornhill, as well as the rest of the County and all should hang their heads in sorrow. Someone who truly represented change for the sake of change, truth for the sake of truth, and breaking away from the old guard to do the work of the people for the very people that elected him will come to an end. Soon we will be back to a meeting never attended…..and an event with food, never missed. Taxation with no representation…..and representation that is indeed, taxing. Larry……Now you will understand fully what I told you a few years ago, people here love complacency…..and they never remember, but always forget. You fought the good and proper fight, hold your head up and keep on fighting. You see what happens to those that do the right thing and push for the people. If they can’t find something to beat you down with, they manufacture dirt out of thin air. Or invest heavily in the purchase of alcoholic beverages. But I did say I wouldn’t go there didn’t I?

What more can I say that Ralph didn't. Larry, it was a pleasure having you on the Board and thank you for your fight. You DID make a difference. Like I said in my email to you, I'll see ya 'round the block LOL!!!

This was Oneida County's - esp. his constituents, of course - loss. I find it sad that so few turned out to vote, and how little the people really seem to know that Larry was in those meetings voting on their behalf. The tide will turn again -it always does.

This isn't an important year for elections. Sorry

Larry,
If I may, I would like to share an analogy I heard tonight. "People are like dynamite. You can't release the power within unless you light the fuse." Keep lighting fuses.

Interesting. A little web research reveals that Kieta has a history of confusing editorial comment with news reporting. Even Bill Keeler thinks so, of all people. JK might be one of those wonder boys who serially achieve local fame, serving a corporate purpose until he takes himself a little too seriously, edges into a mistake and finds his next job editing obits in Salamanca.
You know what Larry? You did what you thought was best for the county and for your constituents. You knew going into it there was a great chance you would be unappreciated in some circles. Few know or appreciate how hard you worked. Some of the dopes who post in the news comment sections have never worked for anything. Some aren't old enough for working papers.
You want to know something else? You'll outlive 'em. There is a wave of prosecutions coming across the state. The new federal bureaucracy will be felt even to the local level as they take more total control. True, much of it will be politics and circus performance. But some of the bastards will be caught out. And you'll be looking at their backs as they're marched off to prison.
I have not always agreed with your opinions, but not being a local I withheld comment most of the time. I figured you were on the ground and therefore had more authority to your opinion. But in our conversations on this forum I have come to know and appreciate a young man who has a heart for his city and county and is willing to do his best for the people he represents.
I hope you'll stay with us on the forum. We need your view of the world.

I would suggest that you run again in the next election. Hopefully we will get rid of the dead wood in the legislature and bring in the green wood.

You have hit the nail on the head Dave. I also hope that Larry will stay with us and make his opnions known. As we continue to discuss and critique county politics and political behavior, Larry and his reputation for honesty and hard work increase in value and the next term with the county legislature will make people wish they had carried their lazy asses to the polls and voted for the continued exposure of the wrongdoing as it was continually brought to light by Larry.
NOBODY will bring us video of the sessions and honestly discuss his stand on issues on radio and in print as Larry did. I personally have the utmost respect for Larry Tanoury Jr, and I hope we have not seen the last of his face on campaign posters and in the media.
He is a tough kid. You have to have a thick skin to endure the slanderous remarks, the back biting, and the dirt digging against one's self and their family, as is evidenced in Oneida County and Utica City politics. Larry has repelled the slings and arrows and did a wonderful job for his district and the taxpayers of Oneida County.
Hang in there Larry, and stick with us. We value your editorial opinion and your views of issues of interest. I think you have a lot of support here at the corner, and you are well received and liked. Even those that don't agree with your political views, respect your tenacity and willingness to speak out.
Hendricks will make such a sham of his term, IF he serves it, that they will be banging on your door to run again in the next election. In the mean time, stay vocal and stay visible. Don't let folks forget your accomplishments or your dedication to your district and to the county's taxpayers.

Or, maybe instead of running for a lowly (I use that term figuratively) county legislator, you should contemplate running for county executive. Really give the voters something to vote for.

Good point Swimmy. What a victory for the people of Oneida County THAT would be! With politics the way they are in Oneida County, it would take a groundswell of grassroots support. Maybe the taxpayers are fed up enough to get behind such an effort.

The county is ripe for the taking. Larry would just need to get his voice out. If he won county exec, he could fire anyone related or friends with all prior administrations. Then publicly advertise and hire only those actually qualified for their positions.

But once all the relations and friends are eliminated, who would be left to consider? ;D
