You are right on several levels Dave. D is not only a great photographer, he is also a brilliant artist, that uses all the modern technology available to create wonderful, eye popping, art works from simple photos of simple subjects. Between the lighting, the photo enhancing software available, and his knowledge, simple point and shoot is not in his vocabulary. He is truly an artist and a creator of beautiful images, not just "pictures".

Correct. I told you this one was easy.. In the end, the earth always takes back.. theshadowman.com/labels/Broadacres.htmlFunny to see UER on here, haha. I'm on there too.. Out of the 5 buildings that were left (after what I believe was the morgue was leveled years ago), all 5 are now gone. I have fully documented the before, during and after of this loss. I have over 10,000 images of these locations during my shoots there. Such a beautiful place up on a hill overlooking Utica.... gone. Thanks for the pats on the back. Trust me, I do this for all of YOU out there.. Edit 1: Also, for a touch of before www.theshadowman.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=24 Edit 2: Which of the large buildings do people think is older?

As for edit 2: If I identify the buildings correctly, it is a shot from North to South and the building on the far right would be St Luke's Hospital, and I am pretty sure that the next tall structure to the left is the 258 building, and IT is the oldest building of the larger buildings shown on the skyline... I guess it depends on what buildings are considered "large". St Johns and the Gold Dome bank are both older than the 258 building, but not as large.

I would say that the Jensen Hall is the oldest building. It was most likely the original hospital and the doctors houses and such most likely came later as the place expanded and grew.

This reminds of the roof top on Hotel Utica....

An aside...
#1. Having been a photographer for the past 49 years, I applaud D's treatment of Jensen Hall. The photos are technically excellent and each scene has obviously told a story which D has recognized and attempted to portray. For me, and hopefully for you, it worked. The purpose of a good photo of this nature is to instill a feeling in the viewer. The subject matter certainly did for me, and is a reminder of my uncle who spent quite a while here years ago when he was recuperating from TB surgery.
#2. But as a human being, I'm deeply saddened. The "Powers that be" who made the decision that Broadacres would no longer be used should have acted much more quickly in its removal and never let it deteriorate into this condition. Are we to remember the good that Broadacres did while it existed, or the gradual decay that was allowed to happen? And perhaps question the decision-makers? Certainly good subject matter for D's photography, but not so much for those of us whose lives this facility has touched.
#3. Regardless of this, a smile is still our best bet.

BTW, Jensen Hall was not the older of the two:) It looked it by design, but the flat top was a few years older.
Still I miss this great loss to CNY.

Glad to see ya back with us. Love the banner with the UC sign. My son works at the brewery and it reminds me of him when I see it, as well as being a landmark that dominates the skyline of my old hometown.
Does anyone remember the old Fort Schuyler brewery that was in E Utica somewhere. I vaguely remember it, but I can't remember where it was. Does anyone remember a rooftop sign such as the Utica Club sign being there? I can't remember much about it, or if there was a sign, but I remember that it existed, and that my grandfather drank Fort Schuyler for years.

Clipper when I was a kid I lived on Broad St,just a few houses from Mohawk St. My dad workrd at Kenwell an I would go down and wait for him to get out of work. I think it was on Jay Street at the corner of Third Ave. (if that is the street the other end from Mohawk) Or maybe it wa second st. I can see it in my head. Don't remember a sign. Just the back of the building and a loading dock and parking lot.
