It is an emotional subject and with many factors playing into it. I am sure that the girl needs to be punished, and prosecuted for her ignorant and fatal mistakes on the night in question. The charges are definitely warranted.
How the case is handled is what is in now in question. I personally think that the DA has used proper discretion in handling the case, and is taking into consideration the grieving of the family at this time.
We had a similar case here in Tennessee a couple of years ago. A mother was arguing with a passenger and speeding when she crashed her pickup and killed her son, who was ejected from the vehicle. I thought it to be proper that they let the case ride for a year, and then prosecuted the mother for her crimes. The air had cleared and local sentiment had calmed, allowing a jury to be picked that would be less emotionally driven to hang the woman, and more inclined to act fairly and act on the evidence presented rather than emotion.
I have mixed emotions as to how this case should be handled. People say that the DA is too soft. I simply think that the DA takes more time than previous DA's in considering the individual circumstances in each case. Ya can't please everyone.
The Observer Disgrace, in it's usual inconsistent fashion is allowing their comment section to run rampant, and to attack the whole damn family of the little girl. Personal opinions of people who seem to know the family are being allowed, and personal attacks and names such as "white trash" are being allowed to remain up on the page.
What the hell is going on with this obvious insensitivity and inconsistency at the OD? I have seen comments deleted for less, and normally if a subject gets heated, the OD simply wimps out and pulls the whole comment section down on that particular thread.
Just another reason why I read most of my news on the UDN page first. I browse the OD page for the obits and other news a little later in my morning routine. Kinda rates up there with the comics or the tabloids.
