I wonder who bought the property in 1934, assuming the sheriff sold it that year. Also, here's a nice source for Utica history. The following web page and the links from it. www.livingplaces.com/NY/Oneida_County/Utica_City/Lower_Genesee_Street_Historic_District.htmlI can't get on NYPL for the 1883 atlas of maps today. For the heck of it, I applied for an NYPL library card. I can have it as a non NY City resident, but if I'm reading their material correctly, I have to stop in one of their branches to activate the card. I did receive a temporary bar code number, which works, and with it searched for "Utica Atas 1883," but no luck. Maybe it's temporarily (hopefully) off line today. Jon, have you had same experience?

I Can't remember why I applied for a NY City Library Card awhile back. They sent me a card in the mail. I didn't have to go to NYC to activate. I want a card with the Syracuse Library for various reasons but have to go there to sign up for the card.

My NY Public Library Card arrived in today's mail. As you said, Jon, there is nothing in the paperwork that says I have to appear in person in New York city to have the card activated. Another disconnect between an institution and it's web page squad, I guess. Or a purposeful discouraging note on the web page to reduce applications.
Have you investigated trying to figure out how to download a complete high resolution set of maps? We could put them on DVDs or such. I'd hate to lose the maps. You'd think the OCHS would have done so. Maybe they have. Or they have the originals.

Opening of Utica Park
A large number of Uticans enjoyed Sunday afternoon at Utica Park, now opened for the season. Rath's Band gave a delightful programme from 2:30 until 7:30. The park looked very handsome in its new spring suit of green. This year's improvements are substantial. The large building, 62x67 feet, formally used as an animal house, has been joined to the western end of the pavilion and is used as a restaurant. This is conducted by Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Merrill. The floor of the dancing pavilion has been planed, sand papered and waxed and is now in the best condition. For picnic parties the place is an especially delightful one.

Labor Day Picnic
By all means the feature of Labor Day, Monday, September 2, will be the big picnic at Utica Park of the Labor Temple Association. After the parade the people will go to the park where a fine list of amusements will await them. A first class orchestra will play until after nightfall for dancing. The program of sports and races will be as usual a fine one and with all the other features, the big crowd should find it no work at all to amuse itself.
