It is reported that this scumbag had a 38 pistol in his possession. Could have been much worse. I think that Smith has aleady got a preview of his life in jail, when he was brought out of the house with a t-shirt pulled over his bloody head.. Good thing there is no such thing as a "shoe cam." A couple of the officers might have "tripped" over Smith's face in the process of restraining him and cuffing him.
Too bad that Smith didn't display the weapon when the cops busted into the apartment. It would have justified their shooting him deader than a nit, saving the taxpaying public the price of feeding his useless ass for all the years that he will be in prison for his stupidity.
I wonder how tough these little "wannabe's" are when they get to prison and the REAL badasses take them to task.
I imagine that if the truth be known, the UPD acted with restraint and did not want to taint the case with any impropriety, but personally, It would have been tempting to beat the ignorant punk to a pulp, and then trip him going down the stairs.

[RANT ON] It's not Utica as a whole. It's just much of the scum that inhabit it. Too many losers, welfare cases, drunks, whores, dropouts and assorted other scumbags that don't give a s*** about anything besides feeding their drug habit. All these out of town losers are most of the problem in Utica. Is there a special bus somewhere that drops them off here??? These are the same people who "can't" find a job, live for the 1st of the month to cash their "check", and have no respect for anything that belongs to anyone else. We need the gold old days in Utica, when people respected the police cause if they gave them any lip, their lip would get broken. [/RANT OFF]

There was a link to this article on Newzjunky.com this morning. When I opened the article to read it I was sickened to find out that this happened in my hometown.

That particular block of Noyes St. has gotten worse in the past year or so. You can tell the type. I have a few living around me, first clue is they leave all their doors and windows open.........year round. I just wish they would all get on the "bus" and leave town en mass. Sad thing is this guy will get a pat on the back from his hoodies when he gets to his final destination........just before they tell him to bend over.

I couldn't agree with you all more. I feel that these "scums" are in Utica because their families are up here in jail. I wish we didnt have jails up here then they wouldn't migrate here. Keep them all on a deserted island somewhere. Clipper you are right, this could have ended worse. I just hope Sgt Kelly is feeling ok.

something I never told any of u guys on this board. I was a former drunk, lived on welfare for eight years waiting for my case to be approved for SSD, am a psychological nut case, applied for well over 250 resume's, can't cope with life because i hold a damn B.S. in Biology , Chemistry and Philosophy as well as a Masters, was involved in the nursing profession as a RN holding various functions one of which was administration, I've taught school 7 to 12 in Missouri and Syracuse and my local area; and I am BI-RACIAL. White on the outside and black on the inside. After I was attacked by a black I went ballistic. Read between the lines.I know that I am to love everybody but I do not have to like everybody. When I watched those accused walk into court with an air of arrogance, I was ashamed. Utica is falling apart. The filth and decay has been building in that city for a long while and nothing is done about it. We can't keep using the excuse of absentee landlords, poverty, using the race card, neglect, child abuse, lack of coping skills, police-community relation building, anger management, educational failure; and the list goes on. Look at what the Bosnian's have done. They came here with just the cloths on there back. What they held in common was the desire to become American's, to live in freedom, with strong family ties and with a proud work history. I know the CENTRO bus drivers who are Bosnian and Serbian. They have no room for self pity and today they reap the harvest. Hard working, self-respectable ,law abiding citizens. And what has the other part of my race accomplished in there many many years of existence in Utica. It is interesting to follow population movements amoung various ethnic and raciial groups.Look at the migration that has taken place in Utica from its foundation. I mean this in purely acedemic research concept.. Nothing learned is nothing gained. . Even though the few do not justify the many the majority gives insight into the future. If I am thrown off the message board because of this let it be .

I certainly hope you're not thrown off. You've stated what the news media refuses to print and what many Americans refuse to say.
Your points could be argued pro and con, true and false, and opinions would differ. But the discussion isn't even allowed in academic circles nor in the public sphere, except on the Internet.

Too bad someone didn't tape all the bystanders. get a good pic of them and pay a little visit. Let's see how cheery they feel when it's one of their own getting an ass whoppin. And you know what really sucks. Not one of those shitbags would ever be on something like this. They're all too goddamn stupid to use the computer. They're all too self absorbed in their pathetic welfare ladden lives to ever care about people who do a job that protects the PUBLIC. The only things most of them care about is yes the 1st of the month, where can I score my next hit, do I have enough to buy a forty, or what new freebee is the government handing out to me today. Why isn't someone else taking care me. I could go on and on but alas lets keep focus here. The new chief of Mills has it right. Kids used to run up to police cars and talk to the officer now they are more apt to run away. The 'thug' mentality gets ingrained to these kids earlier and earlier. Police- bad, police-bad, police-bad! It's a joke and not a funny one at that. You hit a cop while they are doing something within the course of their duty and it should be an immediate ass whoopin. You stand by and watch it happen I would say you should feel ashamed for yourself but these people don't feel shame. They should get a nice hard right cross. But like I said earlier these words will fall on deaf ears because the peole who should hear this won't because they are too stupid and empathetic.

I also appreciate reading your story Concerned. I knew you were a very educated person, but I did not know just how educated. I am impressed with your qualifications, and sorry that your life has taken such a turn. I also am a "former drunk" and I sympathize with that struggle and laud any effort you make to stay sober.
There is NO reason why posting that story would get you thrown off the forum. I have found some of your past postings imappropriate, but that is not the case with that particular post.
I understand your statement, that you "have to love everybody, but don't have to LIKE everyone", and I assume that I fall into that category, LOL. We have had our disagreements, and I have found some of your posts a little inappropriate and have questioned them, but I have utmost respect for your education, your intelligence, and your religious background. I also apologize for assumptions that I had made that turned out to be inaccurate. It is easy to "read something into" or "envision" someone in an inaccurate manner when only able to make an assessment based on discussion forum postings. I AM an extremely opinionated person. That leads to many mistakes and inaccurate assumptions at times. For that I ALSO apologize. We all do the best we can with what we have. What I DO consider to be a strong point is the fact that when I realize that I have made an inaccurate judgment call, I am not ashamed to admit my transgressions and apologize.
I could post this to a PM rather than on the open forum, but any thing that I have done to offend you, embarrass you, or that was unjustified, was done on the open forum, so an apology also should be made on the open forum. You ARE a valued member of the Clipper's Busy Corner family, and we all appreciate your humor and your wisdom.

Thanks Corner. I am just curious, I mean I know everywhere you go there are going to be so called people using the system, whites, african americans, asian etc. I just see more people on the "system" and I am not saying a particular race, because i see many.. and I see more people here who do not want to make something of them selves then my relatives see in southern states. So I was just curious.. I know we dont have many jobs here, but there are plenty to get people to work. so what if it is minimum wage. I know i am off on a tangent but I was just wondering why so many people were "bystanders" and "cheering" at 2pm when this happened. Shouldn't they be working? That is when i thought maybe they are on the system. Sorry.

lilbump, you point to a real problem for those who do want to work and succeed. They are often unprepared to offer much and a $10 an hour job doesn't get them very far ahead. Also, folks at the bottom of the economic ladder often find working at low paying jobs to be to their detriment. I'm working now with a man who is in his sixties and on his last financial leg. He's trying to keep his home, but taxes keep going up and as a house painter, he either can't get or can't take certain types of painting jobs. And when he does land a job, he has to give back food stamp money and potentially disability income he has received. The net is often zero or he's even lost money by working. He tries to be philosophical about it, but were he a young man, schooled in hate and resentment as many are today, he would be dangerous. I think I would be, too. I don't mean to imply that cheap wages is the cause of all our social unrest. That is not true. But it is a factor. However, eventually, the cord is going to have to be pulled on the patient and the country will need to move on and leave those who refuse to be at all cooperative to their own fate. In a way, that is being done, but so far without putting containment walls up around their neighborhoods. To date, we've only used spy cameras on their street corners.
