I know that many of us went to UFA at one time or another, and many of our musician members most likely took band while there.
I just read in the OD obits this morning that Edward Hacker died. Although I didn't take band or play an instrument, I knew Mr Hacker simply as a friendly and personable teacher, as well as a wonderful band leader.
In reading his obituary, I was amazed at all of his musical accomplishments. He truly was a talented musician, and our area was luck to have him share that talent with area children for many years as a teacher at UFA.
Thank you Ed Hacker for your contributions to a mulititude of area musicians and for your dedication to not only your profession, and to music, but to children. It is a legacy that lives on proudly in the music of your former students.

I remember Mr. Hacker..... he was a cool guy. He was like Music Superintendent when I was in school. He wasn't teaching. He would always come by the band room at Kennedy and check us out when we would play.
