Sarah Palin announced not only would she not run again for governor of Alaska, but she is quitting the job 16 months early. "Political experts" say this dooms any plans she may have for a run at the US presidency, but also her move will likely ruin any political aspirations she may have. They say Ms. Palin is managed by nitwits and have called her move "dumb," and her prospects are said to be quite dim at this point.
I certainly can agree that she is not using the usual playbook. And she didn't make a good showing her last time out of the gate. Although, if McCain had won, most commentators would have been kinder to her, and the press would have adopted her.
I can see some reasons for her abdication ... aside from rumors of more legal troubles if she stays in the governors job. If she wants to be a player in national politics ... and at this point no one would recommend her for President, per se, she has to leave Alaska (spiritually) and begin to tackle national issues and build a reputation as a real leader. So, she wouldn't want to run again for a post that kept her from the national scene. Her status would become apparent fairly soon. Hanging around Juneau as a lame duck could be worse than a waste of time. Crises happen without warning and chief executives take the blame.
Myself, who has admittedly no prognosticator reputation to risk, I wouldn't be so quick to label her actions without thought or merit. I'd sit back and wait to see what happens. What do you think?

Interesting article ...Weary Palin Sought to Regain ControlUnease in Spotlight, Family Concerns Sparked DecisionWhy did Sarah Palin step down? Theories abound. But some of the people closest to the Alaska governor say she wanted to regain control of a political script that slipped out of her hands the moment she burst onto the national stage. She also wanted to shield herself and her family from the attacks that seem to have been aimed permanently at them in the 311 days since Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced her as his running mate, according to some former campaign aides and other advisers who speak regularly with Palin or her husband, Todd. The Sarah Palin who stood outside her Wasilla, Alaska, lakefront home Friday to surrender her term with 18 months remaining appeared vulnerable and anything but the pugnacious hockey mom and combative candidate whom Americans came to either adore or revile. The woman who said she would never blink suddenly tired of what she deemed the "superficial, wasteful political blood sport." So she quit. I'm not her apologist, but she did get elected governor. Maybe you're right. Or maybe you're a Katie Couric fan! Hahahahaha!

Yes, I do. And regarding Palin, I'll admit that I'm always willing to give the benefit of the doubt to an attractive woman. In her interviews, I found her more unprepared than lightweight. Which I blamed on her handlers. They should have better anticipated areas of discussion, questions, strategic answers, etc. You're smart enough to be President, Corner, but I'm sure you would need a lot of prep before you met the press ... even Katie Couric. Also, Palin needs a serious lesson in gravitas if she wants to play nationally, I think. She should study John Kerry, admittedly a cartoon of himself, but it worked for him ... up to a point. I remember watching Palin one night soon after her supernova appearance on the national scene, thinking "she will soon stop dropping her 'g's, won't she? The people of the United States want someone "of the people," but not "like the people!" You betcha!

palin is no light weight for sure i was referring to couric as a light weight interviewer she more fluff than substaqnce palin could be a force eventually to be reconned with i think her ego got in the way of listening to her handlers who probabalyknew what they were doing....i get the feeling her husband wears the pants in the family and she takes out her resentment in the public forum by refusing to follow directions of people who know better
