The place looks real nice I hope that it can bring change to the area( and I do not mean anything discriminatory about that statement)

The sub-station is a waste of tax dollars. I was in Utica for 2 weeks and never saw the substation in use. You know what would be perfect in that area? Foot patrols..... What the hell is the sub-station going to do? I looked at the Sub-Station from a James St. bar and it looked as if it wasn't even being used.

I wonder how much that will cost us. Spend more and more money.

Let's all remember that the "sub-station" was supposed to be in operation at the beginning of LAST summer!!!
Now we are at the end of this summer.
The computer link is BS in my opinion. Since the patrol cars can link from different sections of the city wirelessly, why can't the sub-station?
This is almost as big of a money pit as the carnival down on Oriskany Street.

The only advantage I can see to the substation is that the opportunity to mingle with neighborhood kids may reap some benefits. When I was young, the police sponsored boxing for youngsters and sponsored baseball teams with police officers offering the coaching and paying the bills for the programs. Every kid that is befriended by, or befriends a cop, is one less hoodlum hanging on the corner.
Foot patrols would also work, but todays officers are not going to be very enthused by the idea of walking a beat. That ended in the 50's and 60's. Today's cops think that they are being punished if they have to pull traffic duty.
When I was a kid, my dad ran a gas station on Herkimer Rd and Keyes Rd. Car 88 used to stop often for coffee, or a soda. Ray Schreck, Don Palmer, Dave Jones and others were our heros, and were always good to kids and always had time to establish a rapport with the local kids.
