I just did a search to see if there are any web cams in the area and found this one. www.arlott.com/Web%20Cam.htmYou would think they could have placed it in a more scenic spot than what looks like bags of trash.

LOL That cam is obviously located in their store. Those are new copying machines that you see with the plastic over them. Yes, you are correct. It is hardly a scenic view. Probably more use as a security cam watching the door and the machines, than a real web cam with any other purpose.

Clipper then looking futher I came across this thread. Dave George will definitetly be rolling over in his grave. Big Brother is definitely here to stay. You can run but you can't hide. This sort of goes along with texting, tweeting and now what I call spying. www.nightclub-business.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3495

It's all part of the syndrome where anyone who can make a buck from using your information considers you "public" as soon as you step out of your shower in the morning.

Kinda puts a damper on the adulterous relationship and the bar scene. A wife could go on line and check out the clubs, catch her old man sucking face with his mistress and never leave the living room, haha. How convenient.

Chris, you probably have the usual list, as I do, from the TV stations, colleges, etc. Other than these, there are a few I've found that are near Utica, and one in Utica at the Masonic Home bordering Frankfort. It's a challege to get the Masonic's cameras to work, however. So, there's WestMoGuy in Westmorland, of course. See his back yard. www.cnyweather.com/Then there's the front yard of the family in New Hartford. (They used to have their dining room camera on line, for reasons unknown to me.) www.welchons.com/45308.htmAlso, the WKTV camera high atop their transmitting tower, where in good weather you can see nothing but the far horizon. In bad weather you can see nothing but ... bad weather! Real up close, so much so that if the camera fell over upside down you wouldn't notice. Well, come to think of it, the rain would start streaming up instead of down. If you can get it to work, here are the cameras at the Masonic Home in Utica. webcams.gajda.cz/america/new-york/utica-campus-central-1.htmlAnd they list two others, also at the Masonic Home. webcams.gajda.cz/america/new-york/utica-construction.htmlwebcams.gajda.cz/america/new-york/utica-campus-central-2.htmlHere's one down at the school in Madison on Route 20. weather.weatherbug.com/NY/Utica-weather/weather-cams/local-cams.html?zcode=z6286&campid=0&ssns=4&I thought one of the Utica public schools had a weather web cam, but I can't find it in my Favorites or in a Google search. Maybe my memory is bad.

Clipper...you are probably right that it might be mainly a surveilance camera .
Dave...thanks for posting the camera links. I am familiar with those. I was hoping maybe there might be a newer one posted and running since that list. I am interested in one right smack downtown or uptown. Something similar to the one we had here on rocpic. The guy lives on Monore ave and had three cameras up. A great spot cause it gave you a good view and close to downtown just around the corner from Strong Museum. He also use to take a photo a day and post them and was at every venue happening here so was quite informative and interesting to view. Now his cams are turned off and he posts to MySpace. I miss the POD but he still is shooting and posting photos. And also videos to youtube. We have a few but Ron's and the one on the pier at the coastguard station (via weatherbug) are my fav's.
PS...interesting that web cam at Masonic has a url from what looks like Czechoslovakia.

Thats the front yard Dave. The back "deer cam" will be back in the fall when the deer have returned. Gonna move the front one outside I think for an even better view. I need to clean the window too LOL

WestmoGuy...is it very expensive to keep a webcam. What does it take exactly to run one. (I'm guessing just your PC is not going to cut it or is possible to run)
I often thought of having one myself but never knew what it takes to set one up. (I would need to go with the most inexpensive route)
Can you zoom in a bit closer to the bird feeder. It would be fun to watch the birds that land there for their daily food rations

Chris, the cam was around $100 when I got it. They are down around $80 now. I run it through the weather station software I've got which lets me stream it pretty easily. Just have to have a good web provider and good software and a computer with some power. Time Warner has some pretty good speed thank goodness. When I move it outside instead of behind the window you'll get some better shots probably. Can even turn the sound on too and hear the bird or my dogs barking in the background. It is kinda funny sometimes, I'll get emails from pepole all over the world and a lot of displaced CNY'ers who like it. Plus, if it's not streaming sometimes I get complaints

It wasn't me (but could have been)
I do have a webcam that I use for my Skype calls and am on DSL but thought that it was entirely different software to make it as the one you have (more powerful and sofisticated) Wheree would one find info on how to set one up the way yours is? Thanks

You could probably look at www.earthcam.com Chris. I do believe you can stream it through there. Just be aware, that I run through a router and have to open up some ports to left the cam stream, which can make you a little more vulnerable to attacks.
