Just a publicity stunt - KISS FM remains on air despite weekend claimsUTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - In the end, all the hype turned out to be nothing more than a publicity stunt. Last week, Roser Communications, which owns 97.9/105.5 KISS FM announced KISS FM "was coming to an end," blaming the circumstances on "the tough economy." In that official statement, Roser Communications said this was "merely the first step in announcing its exciting lineup changes." www.wktv.com/news/local/45294832.htmlYou have to wonder just how stupid can a business get? Destroying your credibility as a commercial enterprise by lying to the public can have enormous consequences.
Is there no one on the station's business staff who wonders what a banker will think next time they need a loan? Or a supply house the next time KISS asks for additional time to pay a bill? Or a multitude of customers, prospects, employees and partners who now understand that the radio station will lie straight faced to them and excuse themselves for it by saying that it was "good for business?" Sheeesh!

There's also the question of WKTV's involvement in this stunt. I've heard some rumblings that the reporter was "encouraged" to cover the story despite staff at the television station being well aware that it was fake.

Actually from the sources I have the listener-ship went up during the stunt as everyone wanted to hear what was going on- especially as the day went on. (This based on the amount of complaints of course) Basically anyone who had an advertising spot later in the day just got some good PR time.
