Once again I am forced to wonder how the males of our species survive to reproductive age.
Friday night I was with my 13 month old grandson in our family room. He started by playing with his recent birthday gift, a ride-on toy fashioned like an ATV. For a few minutes he was happy riding it around the room and pushing the buttons that made horn & motor sounds.
Then he got off and went to get the toy stroller in the corner with a baby-doll in it. Typical toddler short attention span I thought. He carefully positioned the stroller in the center of the room, went back to the ATV and with a loud "Whee" pushed it as fast as he could into the stroller.
A few minutes later there was another "Whee" as he pushed the "baby" in the stroller as fast as he could run around the room.
He has a baby brother due in September. At least I know now that if I hear a "Whee" while he is with the baby to run and see what kind of ride is happening.

sounds like a smart kid! At 12 months, he figured out how to power a stroller without having to exert too much energy, at twice the regular speed (or faster), all while having exponentially more fun walking the baby stroller! I was three when I crossed a road while an 18-wheel truck approached because I was only told not to cross if I saw a car. Of course, I think I was dropped when I was a baby, it's the only explanation. As for how I managed to survive this long, well, clearly divine intervention.

CB, self-endangering males have intrigued evolutionists for years. Other than the fact that agressive males may reproduce at a younger age (prior to birth control), there are various theories. George C. Williams (THE classic evolutionist) would be against it, but I've always thought Group Selection is the best explanation. Genes or behaviors survive when they benefit the group, if not always the individual. This may be why, before our culture became feminized, brave and dangerous males were looked upon with awe and respect. (They were also stabbed in the back. Et tu, Brute?)

Once again I am forced to wonder how the males of our species survive to reproductive age. That can only be explained by the presence of bossy females.
