Plane stupid: Mayor Bloomberg outraged over military photo-op involving low-flying presidential jetA perfect storm of idiocy led to a frightening 9/11 flashback for thousands of New Yorkers Monday when a jumbo jet and an F-16 fighter jet buzzed lower Manhattan without warning. A "furious" Mayor Bloomberg denounced the dunces who dreamed up the stunt - and the NYPD officials and bureaucrats who never told him about it. By day's end, an obscure City Hall deputy named Marc Mugnos, who makes $60,000 a year, was taking the fall for not telling Bloomberg that the low-flying planes were coming. He was reprimanded. But there was plenty of blame to go around. "I was crying and praying to God to forgive me my sins because I thought I was going to get killed," said Kathleen Filandro, who fled from 1New York Plaza when she spotted the planes.
"It's like someone coming up to you, sticking a gun to your head for 15 seconds, walking away and hearing 20 minutes later it was an undercover cop posing for a photo," said Wall Street worker Bill Privett."I am still shaking," he said. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs appeared taken aback as reporters peppered him with questions about the incident. "I have no information beyond what I saw" on news reports, Gibbs said at his afternoon press conference. A short time later, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel tracked down Caldera and "relayed the President's displeasure," sources said. "The President was furious," a White House insider said. www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2009/04/27/2009-04-27_plane_stupid_mayor_bloomberg_outraged_over_military_photoop_involving_lowflying_.html

I still say this idiot is tied to terrorists as displayed by his overseas visits and going after the waterboarding stuff. The was a photo op for his fellow terrorists to see where exactly to hit next and how to do it and that we can't do anything about it. I still think someone is going to make a try at obama before his first year is up.

Maybe this is exactly what the American people needed to see and be reminded of the lives that were lost on 9/11. I think some video footage should be replayed to remind certain Americans and our politicians of their complacent attitudes and who our real friends truly are.

Well, Todd, I can safely say that had the stunt been done for Bush rather than Obama, the news media would have made one hell of a lot bigger deal over it. As it happened, a flight that scared that many people and brought to mind Septemeber 11, 2001 didn't seem to get a lot of news coverage.

Don't know about that Dave. I watch HN alot and it's been on over n over again. Most of the talk shows on that station keep bringing it up all day and night long. Geez, how much can they say about it when the other shows have already talked about it.

Dave,
What do you expect when you have the Democrats running everything except Fox News?

As Dave said these news channels would be crucifying Bush and interviewing people on the streets in how this stunt really affected them and their lives for days if not months on end.
Instead Obama gives a press conference about how he didn't know anything and it would never happen again. Obama really hasn't been put on the coals and justify some of his comments and actions and be held accountable like Bush was in his term.
Then again, no other President has had this low of ratings in their first 100 days in office.
I ask, with all the photography software on the market why didn't they just put the two together in a picture?

I didn't bother to delve into it very far. Just what "picture" were they looking for?

Ralph, there is evidently a series of "public service ads" (I don't know what for) of Air Force One (or Scare Force One, as one wag put it) flying over national monuments (like Rushmore) and metropolitan areas. The price tag for the NY flight was supposedly $325,000, which sounds too cheap for the government. One blogger said he and his wife could have done with with a PC and the appropriate software for $325.
BZ, interesting to know about the news channels. I was referring to my monitoring of the Internet news sites, which to me didn't seem to feature it for long or very high on the page.

CNN has turned into the All Swine Flu All Day network. Aside from carrying Obama's statement about how he won't look for a justice who is bound by some "abstract legal theory" (like the Constitution?), there's nothing else on.

If I remember correctly, Souter was the justice who opined on the side of imminent domain in the case where a town in Connecticut wanted to evict a whole neighborhood so they could sell the land to a developer to increase the take in city taxes.
Some guy later went to New Hampshire where Souter has a house and told the town fathers if they didn't do the same to Souter, whose property would bring in much more tax revenue as a commercial property, the man would sue the town for malfeasance or something.
Great stunt. Nothing changed. Too bad. I wonder if any of those poor Connecticut displaced neighbors are anti-gun these days.

You're right, Dave. Souter's home was never taken by eminent domain.
