There used to be an elderly man that cleaned and blocked hats in a shop where the downtown post office substation is now. He used to work near the front window, blocking hats, and it was fascinating to watch. I would think that it is a lost art in the Utica area. The last one I saw blocking and cleaning hats was in Nashville, where the western hat is still in style and can be seen in abundance on the street.
I wandered into a shop where you could purchase a western hat, and the guy would put it on a block and shape it with steam, to your personally preferred shape and bend in the brim. He operated a foot pedal that shot steam up through the hat while he molded it and shaped it to perfection.
Now THERE is a suggestion. I think Swimmy would look great in a stetson, LOL. Kinda like a cross between Perry Mason and Garth Brooks.

I want to achieve the look of handsome, stately, and that when people see me walking down the street in my rain coat and the hat they know i'm a force to be reckoned with.

Yep, a force to be reckoned with. Definitely need the cowboy hat, a black floor length duster and a sawed off shotgun with a pistol grip. Might make it difficult getting into the court house though!

Primarily family law. But I dabble into a bit of everything starting May 1st. Actually, I have a secure pass. I am sure I could sneak in with them concealed within the trench coat...

Are you going with the feather on the hat? I don't like that look I think that it is creepy.

I like the Godfather, but myself I prefer the Bogart style. I have a nice one in black leather

I have always preferred the powdered wig look for lawyers, a hold over from my days of watching Rumpole of the Bailey

God, I hope it's not the powdered wig! Distinguished? Yes. Attractive? Negative! ;D Sorry Swimmy, you'll get no babes with that on your head.
