Is there something new about my hometown that you folks haven't told me?Utica hosts same-sex families for Pride and Joy weekendUTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The City of Utica is playing host to more than 200 same-sex couples from all over New York State for the 2009 Pride and Joy Families Weekend. The Radisson Hotel is the site of the weekend-long event. Organizers says this is a w way for kids and their parents to see and get to know families just like theirs, so they know they are not alone. There are numerous seminars set up, everything from the legal issues same-sex parents face, to issues their children must deal with in school. This is only the third ever pride and joy families weekend conference in New York State. The first was held in 2001 in Ithaca, in 2005 it was held in Binghamton and this year in Utica. www.wktv.com/news/local/43699592.html

Apparently Dave, no one told me either. Not that I have a problem with it, but why does everyone have to make a big thing out of the fact that they are different.

Ralph, it bothers me when some people are different in an overly public way. It's ok to be different and we can recognize the special advantages and disadvantages that might accompany it. But when someone or a group attempts to extort our attention by publicly trumpeting their differences instead of their accomplishments, I get resentful.

I actually have always wondered about the "gay pride" thing. I know several gay people, and none of them would I describe as "being proud" of being gay. Comfortable, complacent, happy, confident, but never have I heard any of them actually purvey the impression that they were "proud to be gay."
I have always had the opinion that their sexuality was their own damn business, as long as their lifestyle was not being pushed on ME. The rainbow coalition and the rainbow flag just seem kinda over the top to me.
When they march with the rainbow flag, I never can ascertain whether it is sympathy or praise that they are attempting to garner.
I guess my opinion is that if you are gay, more power to ya. Live your life, and I will live my own. I don't need to be notified when you and your friends take your kids on vacation, nor do I find it newsworthy. God made us all, both gay and straight, so only he will have the right to judge us when the judgment day comes.

Yeah, it's like, "All us O positive blood types over here. We'll have a parade and augur for our rights!"
Maybe augur is not the best word here.

Maybe I'll design a straight flag and parade that down the street. Hmmmm possible money making oppertunity?

Well I have a curved back do you think that I could start a parade for people that have deformaties? I have a friend that is gay and you know what I don't treat him any different than my straight friends. You guys are right people that keep parading around that they are "different" is getting really old.
