I wonder how it got out of Mexico and into a prep school in New York City. Eight of those cases are positive. Texas has asked for 37.000 doses of the old avian flu vaccine, I din't know why because this has been itendified by CDC as a new mutation of both the swine and avain that infests humans.
Meet the Press has said that the President is being briefed daily.

I think the swine flu has reached Tennessee. I spoke with a neighbor yesterday, and he said he was running a fever, and had this insane urge to throw his wife down in the mud and make mad passionate love to her while rolling in the mire. I am glad I have hadthe flu shot, haha.

Clipper, there is no known vaccine for the swine flu. The seasonal shot you got will not help prevent you from getting the swine strain. Sorry. Normally, the swine flu is contacted by coming in direct contact with pigs but this strain has jumped over the line and is being contacted from human to human and is highly contagious. Very unusual and sounds like it is a mutate virus. As far as eating pork, I don't think they know much about that with this strain. Supposedly, the old strain if you cooked the meat at 160 degrees it would kill the virus but with this new strain, who knows. Just have to wait and see what they come up with as they examine this strain.

Well, if it were true that it was only contracted by contact with pigs, I would be safe. I quit pursuing and having contact with "Pigs" when I quit drinking, LOLOL. Over the years previous to that, I woke up more than once with a snorting sow on the other side of the bed. (my bad) They probably were not too thrilled to see who THEY had slept with either, hehe!

Oink, cough, cough
I hope the feathers in my bed pillow were plucked prior to bird flu.
And get rid of the leather coats!

concerned, some of the students at the Catholic prep school in New York City reporting cases of the Swine Flu had just been to Mexico on spring break. Also, Mayor Bloomberg says he was told the New York cases are indeed Swine Flu, but not the virulent strain that killed people in Mexico. Those two pieces of information seem to me in conflict, but I'm not a licensed epidemiologist.

There has never been a case of swine flu contracted from eating pork products. I heard several pundits on TV say thre is no chance of contracting it by eating pork products.
What I think that means is that somehow we can guarantee that no diseased animals are snuck into the food supply either by mistake or on purpose.
Oh dear ... another government guarantee???

www.timesdispatch.com/rtd/news/world/article/FLUU27_20090426-222612/264140/CDC: Practical precautions can help avoid flu Published: April 27, 2009 WASHINGTON — The acting head of the Centers for Disease Control says people can best protect themselves against the swine flu threat by taking precautions they were taught as kids, like frequently washing their hands. Richard Besser also said today the U.S. government is being “extremely aggressive” in the steps it has taken, or is considering, to protect the American public. But he said that in the meantime, the best response is to do “the things we learned when we were little,“ like covering one’s mouth when coughing and staying home with a fever. Besser said he didn’t think he would personally recommend traveling to parts of Mexico where the new virus has taken hold, but also said no travel ban has been decided upon by federal authorities. www.cdc.gov/swineflu/?s_cid=swineFlu_outbreak_internal_001

Maybe if we can come up with a fictitious horrible disease, MEXICO will impose a travel ban and close their Northern border. Would that not be a hoot??

Concerned, I don't think the usual precautions in protecting yourself is helping much with this new strain. Seems to me it has jumped way over the old strain resulting from direct contact with pigs. Being it is now going from human to human and showing up more in other areas, I fear it is a highly contiguous air-born virus. I hope not. Just have to wait and see what the ones in know come up with. I sure as hell would cancel any trip planned to Mexico or other areas it's showed up until the facts are clear.
