RoAnn Destito, D-Rome is the only local State representative to support Governor Patterson's Gay Marriage Bill. Not only is she going against the majority of New Yorkers but against an even higher majority of her heavily Catholic and Italian district. I think Sen. David Valesky, D-Oneida has it exactly right. No to gay marriage but yes to civil unions. Dave also gets extra credit for taking a stand against his party's conventional wisdom and opposing the governor. The same goes for Assemblyman William Magee, D-Nelson, who also opposes the bill. As for RoAnn, she is again showing that pleasing the powers in Albany is more important than representing the values of her constituents.

New York government cannot afford its extravagant lifestyle, but it focuses on gay marriage. While this is an important issue for a small minority, it is one that will keep for another day. Mrs. Destito is a disappointment, not because she supports gay marriage, but because she apparently does what she is told rather than what is best for her constituents.
She lost her credibility with me when she sided with the Downstate Democrats when Mr. Bragman tried to depose Mr. Silver as leader in the Assembly.
This is why people are having tea parties: Government leaders are putting their parties and themselves ahead of the people they supposedly represent.

Roanne owes Mr. Silver for her gerrymandered district and her lifelong career. She will support an attempted deposing of Silver only on the day AFTER Hell freezes over.
