Of the reasons offered in the article speculating about the increase of gun permits, I think this paragraph comes closest to the reality ... Democrats. "But some fear their right to look to guns for protection might be threatened by more stringent gun legislation now that Democrats control the White House and both houses of Congress. Democrats also control the governor’s office and both houses of the New York state Legislature. 'They’re buying them on speculation that they’re going to be banned,' (Joseph) Tierney said."
I got my permit a few years ago, when a friend said, "you won't be able to get one after the next terrorist attack."

Dave, I agree 100% with you, only your version is a little gloomier than mine LOL. It was very hard to get a pistol permit after 9/11. In Oneida County anyway.
I have a full carry status now with my badge including the right to carry in NY City, which one can not do with a pistol permit and it was surprisingly hard for me. In the end I called in a favor to speed the process along.
Most of these gun laws only hurt the honest guy and will never deter a criminal from getting one or using it in a crime.

Hi Todd, got my permit in '05 or '06, and I understand it was more difficult than it would have been before '01. But my county (Ulster) is easier compared to some, I'm told, so it wasn't all that difficult.
